Role Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Fitter / Toolmaker to join their mechanical assembly and tooling team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the precise assembly, fitting, and machining of components for automated equipment. This role is ideal for someone with a strong mechanical background, excellent attention to detail, and a passion for working in a high-tech, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assemble and fit mechanical components for automated equipment and conveyor systems to high precision and quality standards
* Interpret and work from technical drawings, 3D models, and work instructions
* Operate conventional workshop machinery including lathes, mills, and surface grinders
* Build and adjust mechanical sub-assemblies including pneumatic components and linear motion systems
* Carry out fine fitting and mechanical alignment of custom machine parts
* Collaborate with design engineers and project managers to resolve technical issues during build
* Participate in equipment debug, commissioning, and on-site installations (occasional travel may be required)
* Maintain and care for tools, equipment, and workshop space
* Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with ISO 9001 standards and internal quality procedures
Qualifications & Experience:
* Recognised apprenticeship and trade qualification in Toolmaking or Mechanical Fitting
* Minimum 3 years’ experience in a precision engineering or machinery assembly environment
* Excellent mechanical aptitude and familiarity with close tolerance fits and finishes
* Ability to read and interpret detailed mechanical drawings and pneumatic schematics
* Skilled in manual machining and use of measurement tools (e.g. micrometers, verniers)
* Strong organisational and time management skills
* Team-oriented approach with a commitment to quality and continuous improvement
* Experience building conveyor systems, automated machinery, or bespoke equipment
* Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems and documentation
* Experience in the Medical Device, Pharmaceutical, or FMCG sectors
* Familiarity with pneumatic systems and mechanical alignment procedures
* Willingness to travel for short-term site work, if required
