We are currently recruiting for Assistant Director of Nursing to join the team.
Position Overview
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is a senior clinical role that reports to the Director of Nursing.
The ADON is responsible for clinical leadership, day-to-day clinical practices, staffing, delegation, supervision, performance development, clinical governance and risk assessment within the home.
Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct ward rounds (including with GP) to ensure continuous best clinical outcomes.
Review nursing documentation to ensure it reflects resident care, with assessments and care plans completed on time and regularly reviewed.
Review residents at increased risk of pressure sores, falls or other adverse events and clinically unwell residents; provide advice and documentation to ensure appropriate management plans.
Participate in handovers and troubleshoot ongoing clinical issues; escalating to the Director of Nursing as needed.
Ensure medication practices comply with An Bord Altranais guidelines, liaise with GPs and pharmacy for reviews and audits, and educate staff on prescribing, administration, documentation and electronic prescriptions.
Undertake regular MAMS medicines audits, provide feedback and monitor action plans.
Supervise and mentor CNMs and staff nurses; maintain a visible presence, monitor practice, give constructive feedback and establish a cohesive team dynamic.
Conduct performance appraisals and set professional development objectives for CNMs, staff nurses and care assistants, with CNM appraisals done in collaboration with the DON.
Plan and deliver in-house training on infection control, palliative & end-of-life care, challenging behaviour and elder abuse.
Communicate regularly with staff to foster a team ethos and participate in staff interviews and reviews.
Produce staff rosters, collaborate with the DON, monitor temporary/agency staff and ensure staffing levels meet compliance.
Carry out clinical, hygiene, medication, health & safety, risk assessments and EpicCare audits; implement and sustain action plans.
Serve as key point of contact for residents and families; respond to complaints promptly and, if necessary, elevate them to the DON.
Lead the day-to-day clinical practice in the absence of the DON, ensuring high-quality care and effective communication across all staff groups.
Daily tasks: check rosters, secure cover, attend handovers, support clinical practice, enforce health & safety policy, demonstrate excellent leadership, communication and decision-making, motivate the team, promote a team environment, appreciate finance issues, maintain result-driven focus, hold first-level registration, maintain continuous professional development, and bring previous management experience.
Qualifications
First-level nursing registration (Registered on the appropriate part of the Irish Health Service Executive register).
Evidence of continuous professional development.
Previous management experience.
