Overview
As part of the Beacon Brain Institute’s new neuro interventional radiology (IR) suite, the Staff Nurse will provide specialised care before, during, and after minimally invasive, image‑guided neurovascular procedures such as endovascular coiling of brain aneurysms, cerebral angiograms and carotid stenting.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables
Work within professional guidelines as laid down by the NMBI Code of Conduct for Nurses.
Assist in neuro interventional radiology procedures, including induction of anaesthesia.
Perform admission, discharge and transfer procedures.
Conduct comprehensive neurological and haemodynamic assessments.
Respond quickly to neuro emergencies.
Carry out all nursing practice in accordance with Beacon Hospital policies, including the care, control and administration of medicines.
Maintain accurate nursing records as per hospital policy.
Collaborate with the neuro interventional radiology team and neurosurgical services team to provide high‑standard patient care and service delivery.
Maintain and update knowledge continuously and participate in ongoing education.
Where required, pursue relevant education and training to enhance scope of practice, e.g., new procedures in neuro interventional radiology.
Identify and mitigate hazards within the department (electrical, chemical, transport) and initiate preventive measures.
Monitor and supervise safe equipment maintenance; report problems to the Clinical Coordinator or deputy.
Deputise for the Clinical Coordinator in their absence.
Assist with duty roster planning to meet staffing needs, including weekends.
Discuss any problems or potential problems with the Clinical Coordinator or Nurse in Charge.
Be available to work in any service area as required by the Hospital authority.
Keep up to date with mandatory training such as Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Champion and promote the advancement of technology to enhance nursing organisation and patient care, including potential "Train the Trainer" roles.
Foster a learning environment for staff and assist less experienced staff in developing nursing skills.
Assume the role of "Link Nurse" where required, performing duties such as report writing, data collection, meeting attendance, and peer support.
Lead or participate in unit‑specific and hospital‑wide quality improvement projects, collecting, inputting and analysing data as directed by the Line Manager.
Participate in the Joint Commissioning Accreditation (JCI) process and preparation.
Qualifications
Registered General Nurse licence from the NMBI.
Minimum 3 years of acute hospital experience.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (essential).
Experience in Neuro Interventional Radiology (desirable).
