The Opportunity

We now seeking a Common Grid Model Manager to join our Interconnection team.

The CGM Manager will be responsible for the technical, financial and compliance elements of the Common Grid Model program on behalf of EirGrid. The role integrates technical, operational, and strategic IT management practices to ensure the long-term value and integrity of the entire CGM workings. The CGM Manager is responsible for leading the strategic development, validation, operations and coordination of the Common Grid Model (CGM) within the TSO for capacity and grid management purposes. This role ensures compliance with European regulations (e.g., SOGL, CACM, FCA), supports regional security coordination, and enables efficient cross-border capacity calculation and operational planning.

The role holder will work with the key strategic stakeholders across the organisation and externally to ensure all technical engineering and IT aspects for the Common Grid Model operations are in place for the Irish power system and integration with the wider European grid. The ability to develop strong business cases to demonstrate the compelling arguments, both operational and techno-economic, to support and deliver such opportunities in line with the relevant governance and control frameworks will be key to success in the role.

This is a high-profile role for technical engagement with international TSOs, Regional Coordination Centres, software developers, commercial and regulatory bodies at a senior level. As a result, exceptional skills in communication and an ability to articulate technical concepts and analysis to senior non-technical audiences and business leaders is essential. The role holder will ensure that emerging technical engineering and IT direction of CGM, are aligned and optimised for the benefit of Irish consumers.


The Team

The Operations & Asset Management Directorate comprises highly skilled professionals with backgrounds in engineering and business/commerce - together they manage the operation of the power system and market, ensuring that the lights stay on in a secure, reliable, sustainable and economic way. The Directorate is also responsible for the implementation of transmission system and market transformation in order to meet the future needs of all users of electricity. This includes the optimal use of interconnectors to enhance security of supply and to reduce Ireland’s reliance on high carbon producing machines and replacing them with renewable generation in line with the government’s National Policy Statement on Electricity Interconnection 2023.

The Interconnection function is responsible for the operational activities associated with managing the 500 MW High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) East West interconnector (EWIC) to Wales on a 24 x 7 basis and the readiness activities associated with the proposed 700 MW Celtic Interconnector MW HVDC link between Ireland and France. This includes leading the delivery of transformational change in cross border markets, operational development and asset management, as well as identifying and supporting future Interconnector opportunities for the benefit of consumers.

This is an excellent opportunity for passionate about delivery of the strategic aims and objectives of EirGrid Group, particularly for interconnection and the role will can play in leading and influencing the integration and transformation of the power system for future generations.


About you

* Successful candidates will have a university degree in Engineering, IT or other equivalent degree, typically with 8 years relevant experience.
* Recognised Specialist level of knowledge of CGMES, CIM, and ENTSO-E CGM methodologies.
* Familiarity with European regulatory frameworks and TSO coordination processes.
* Proven technical experience of developing and managing technical requirements related to European regulatory frameworks and TSO coordination processes, particularly for their operational phase.
* Established and expert understanding of all aspects of power system engineering and cross-border markets including congestion management.
* Ability to provide technical leadership and work within a business critical environment while meeting strict deadlines.
* Ability to successfully guide, persuade and influence others towards a common vision or goal, through developed skills of communication and diplomacy, including negotiation and conflict resolution when required.
* Exceptional communicator, able to articulate technical, contractual and commercial concepts and analysis to technical and non-technical audiences and senior business leaders, and can influence, inspire and collaborate with others to deliver interconnection objectives.
* Change oriented, resilient, innovative but uncomfortable with contract ambiguity.
* Track record of conceiving and introducing innovative ideas, solutions or new ways of doing things to solve business problems, collaborating with experts along the way.
* Proven strong experience of the design and integration of financial and technical requirements into required contracts.
* A tenacity to drive excellence and quality in all areas of responsibility in line with the company vision and strategy, identifying and embracing best practice.
* Demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development.
