Job DescriptionJob Title: Clinical Engineering Technician (Decontamination)Department: Clinical Engineering DepartmentReports to: Clinical Engineering ManagerDate: 2025Beacon Hospital Mission StatementThe Mission of Beacon Hospital is to provide exceptional patient care in an environment where quality, respect, and compassion are at the centre of all we do.Overall Purpose of the Clinical Engineering DepartmentIt is the role of the Clinical Engineering department to give the best possible professional service to our internal customers, so that they can provide the exceptional nursing care in line with this mission statement.Overall Purpose of the JobTo support the Clinical Engineering function of the hospital by gaining and developing expert knowledge of hospital decontamination equipment. The role contributes to maintaining a high level of service support while ensuring minimal equipment downtime.Key Responsibilities and DeliverablesResponding to and dealing with technical queries relating to decontamination and sterilisation equipment.Carry out routine device performance tests and complete associated documentation.Provide the Clinical Engineering Manager with such records as are deemed to be necessary.Develop specialist fields of interest within the fields of Clinical Engineering specific to the decontamination function for a state-of-the-art medical facility.Promote and work within the ethos of our JCI/JAG standards and measurable elements.Provide service/repair of decontamination equipment in the workshop, and at the point of equipment use, through-out the hospital.Provide routine servicing, calibration, performance testing and electrical safety testing of decontamination equipment, as part of the Hospital's Preventative Maintenance Program.Provide acceptance testing and commissioning of new equipment procured by the hospital.Provide assistance in equipment fault investigations.Comply with all relevant safety statements, guidelines and procedures.Ensure that all safety requirements, statutory and recommended are met to provide the safest environment for patients, staff and others associated with the operation, control and application of all decontamination and associated medical equipment.Ensure all service and repairs are carried out in a fashion that complies with equipment manufacturer's recommendation and accepted best practice.Carry out all work and duties in a manner that reflects optimum safety/assurance for patients and staff alike.Prepare and maintain all necessary documentation and records relating to duties performed, including, as required, inputting such information to any relevant computer systems for the purpose of supporting and enhancing equipment maintenance.Participate in any necessary technical training program and attend any training courses for the purpose of developing or enhancing staff expertise.Ensure that the concepts of safety, satisfaction and cost-effectiveness are realised in all aspects of activity and equipment support.Liaise directly with the hospital Authorised Person (Decontamination)(AP(D)), Authorising Engineer (Decontamination) (AE(D)), Decontamination Lead, and other relevant professionals.Co-operate and directly participate when called upon, for the purpose of supporting medical equipment outside normal working hours.Ensure that all actions undertaken during the course of employment conforms to best practice and exhibit optimum patient safety and equipment user satisfaction.Person SpecificationQualificationsThird level qualification essential.Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)ExperiencePrevious experience of working in a technical engineering environment is desirable.A minimum of 2 years' experience in the field of Clinical Engineering is beneficial.Job SpecificCompetencies and KnowledgeExcellent engineering skills with ability to deliver;Strong technical framework developed through training and education;Strong problem-solving, problem-resolution and decision-making skills;Strong working knowledge of general IT, troubleshooting hardware and software, networking, peripheral devices, connectivity & configuration.An understanding of decontamination and sterilization equipment.Knowledge of industrial water systems such as RO plant equipment.Maintaining mechanical, electrical and pneumatic systems.Brief understanding of microbiology related to decontamination.Personal CompetenciesTechnically astute and service-focussed with a "can-do" attitude;A high degree of flexibility with strong team spirit and empowerment;Excellent communication and influencing skills;Excellent interpersonal and team-oriented working skills;Highly motivated, self-starter and ability to work on own initiative;Strong organisational skills with proven ability to work collaboratively;Action-orientated with a capacity to challenge demand and drive change.This job description is intended to be an outline of the areas of responsibility and deliverables at the time of its writing.
