Job Description:
As an Algorithm Development Intern in the Battery Insights team, you will contribute to the design, prototyping, and evaluation of advanced algorithms that extract actionable information from battery data. You'll work at the intersection of machine learning, signal processing, and embedded analytics, helping to translate raw sensing and operational data into insights about performance, health, and usage patterns.
This role offers hands-on experience in applying data-driven methods to real-world energy storage systems, combining algorithmic innovation with strong engineering context. You will collaborate closely with experts in data science, systems engineering, and embedded software to support next-generation analytics for battery intelligence platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop, prototype, and evaluate algorithms for feature extraction, anomaly detection, and performance prediction from lab and field battery datasets.
* Apply machine learning and statistical modeling methods to derive insights from time-series and event-based data.
* Analyze large, multi-channel datasets to characterize system behavior and assess algorithm robustness.
* Work with cross-functional teams to translate prototypes into deployable software components.
* Document model architectures, assumptions, and performance metrics to support design reviews and reproducibility.
Skills You Will Need to Be Successful:
* Strong foundation in data science, applied mathematics, statistics, or signal processing.
* Experience with machine learning techniques such as regression, classification, clustering, or feature engineering.
* Proficiency in Python (NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch, or TensorFlow).
* Understanding of data pipelines, model validation, and experiment design.
* Familiarity with version control and collaborative development tools (Git, Jupyter, etc.).
* Strong problem-solving ability and clear communication of technical results.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Currently pursuing a Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
* Coursework or research experience in algorithm development, machine learning, or data analysis.
* Proficiency in at least one programming language used for algorithm prototyping (Python, R, MATLAB, or C++).
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have):
* Experience with time-series analysis, unsupervised learning, or predictive maintenance use cases.
* Familiarity with battery systems or other energy storage technologies.
* Exposure to MLOps workflows, data versioning, or model performance tracking.
* Experience presenting quantitative results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
