The Automation Project Engineer plays a key role in the delivery of complex automation and control system projects, supporting both upgrades to existing systems and the implementation of new solutions across operational environments. This position is responsible for driving projects from early concept development through to final implementation, ensuring alignment with technical, quality, and business requirements.The role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams, external partners, and stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable standards. The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise with structured project delivery skills, contributing to continuous improvement and operational excellence.Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Conduct concept studies and develop cost estimatesSupport and manage change control processesTrack and report on project deliverablesDevelop and maintain project schedulesCoordinate internal stakeholders, vendors, and contractors throughout project executionDefine automation scope of work (e.g., user requirements specifications) in collaboration with system ownersCoordinate with IT teams to scope and request supporting infrastructure (e.g., virtual environments, network components)Engage and manage third-party system integratorsOversee automation activities both offsite and onsite (including development, testing, installation, commissioning, and handover)Prepare, review, and approve lifecycle documentation within an electronic document management system (e.g., functional specifications, traceability matrices, test protocols, and validation reports)Act as a subject matter expert on internal standards related to automation validation, hardware/software environments, and associated business processesSkills & ExperienceRequired:Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical disciplineMinimum 3 years’ experience in automation project deliveryStrong understanding of regulated environments (e.g., quality and compliance standards), system development lifecycle methodologies, and continuous improvement principlesExcellent facilitation, problem solving, and decision making skillsDemonstrated project management capabilityAbility to analyze business challenges, develop cases for change, and implement process and technology solutionsExperience with building management systems, industrial control systems, or process automation platformsFamiliarity with PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and data historiansUnderstanding of server-client architectures and industrial IT infrastructureExposure to compliance requirements for electronic records and data integrityExperience working on automation projects within a regulated manufacturing environment
