Occupli has been engaged to provide specialist EHS project support to a global pharmaceutical client operating a highly regulated GMP manufacturing and R&D campus on Ireland’s North East Coast.
As part of a significant capital investment and process modernisation programme, we are seeking an experienced EHS Project Engineer to embed world‑class environmental, health and safety standards across engineering, construction and operational readiness activities.
This is a senior‑level contract assignment suited to experienced EHS professionals who thrive in technically complex, high‑hazard, live manufacturing environments.
The Assignment
Acting as Occupli’s on‑site EHS project specialist, you will operate at the interface of Engineering, Quality and Operations — ensuring EHS risk is proactively identified, managed and continuously improved throughout the project lifecycle.
Provide expert EHS oversight across capital projects, equipment installations and facility modifications
Integrate EHS into design reviews, engineering change and commissioning activities
Lead structured safety reviews (HAZID, HAZOP, PSSR, risk assessments) prior to system start‑up
Oversee contractor safety performance across construction and upgrade works
Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and internal corporate EHS standards
Support high‑risk programmes including machine safety, energy isolation (LOTO), ATEX and chemical safety
Oversee hazardous materials management and industrial hygiene monitoring
Support regulatory inspections and audit readiness
Lead incident investigations and implement sustainable corrective actions
Provide technical guidance and coaching to strengthen safety culture across project teams
We are seeking a confident, delivery‑focused EHS professional with the ability to influence across multidisciplinary teams and challenge constructively where required.
Qualifications
Degree in Environmental, Chemical, Safety or related Engineering discipline
Professional certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH, PSM, ATEX or equivalent highly desirable
Experience
5+ years’ EHS experience within pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device or chemical manufacturing
Demonstrated expertise in construction safety and process safety
Proven experience embedding EHS into capital projects and engineering change programmes
Strong understanding of GMP environments and high‑hazard operations
Experienced in risk assessments, audits and investigations
Strong stakeholder engagement and contractor management capability
Site start‑up or expansion project experience
Experience implementing EHS Management Systems and coaching operational teams
