Medical Secretary Grade IV - Geriatric General Surgery Pool Permanent Contract, Full Time Hours.
(Under the Governance of Mercy University Hospital Cork CLG.)
The Grade IV Medical Secretaries are essential members of the support services administration team.
Their role is to provide an efficient secretarial and administrative service to the consultants, acting as a first point of contact.
They must communicate effectively with, patients, all departments within the hospital as well as with external parties, maintaining a high standard of customer care at all times.
Responsibilities Include: Provide an efficient secretarial and administrative service to the department, acting as a first point of contact.

Organise admissions by liaising with Bed Management and booking necessary investigations for admissions.
Compile any necessary statistics.
Liaise with outside agencies.
Deal with all telephone enquiries from patients, relatives, G.P.'s etc.
Co-ordinate and facilitate staff meetings.
Type any necessary documents for the area and clinics, including discharge summaries, legal reports and case summaries.
Follow protocol associated with referrals, waiting lists and subsequent appointments.
Eligibility Criteria - Candidates must: Hold a relevant Administration qualification and have achieved a high level of proficiency in same.
Have a comprehensive knowledge of administrative processes and IT skills (to encompass Database and MS Excel) to assist in the delivery of a coordinated approach to patient care.
Database administration.
Previous administrative experience of at least two years.
Possess excellent communication, interpersonal and organisation skills, and effectively manage time and resources.
Be very patient-focused with an approved record of managing sensitive and confidential information.
Be a highly motivated self-starter with demonstrable competence in a stand-alone administrative role.
They must have the ability to work both independently, on their own initiative, and as part of a team with strong team skills and leadership potential.
Accuracy and attention to details in respect of data entry.
Have flexibility and problem solving ability including the ability to adapt to change.
Possess a broad understanding of medical terminology.
Knowledge and experience of the Healthcare Records environment is desirable.
IPMS and T-Pro systems experience is desirable.
