We are currently recruiting for a Health & Safety Officer role with a large construction company in the west of Ireland.

The successful Health & Safety officer will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of safety, health, environmental and quality are maintained on their construction sites. This role requires a proactive approach to risk management and a commitment to creating a safe working environment for all employees and subcontractors. Role will be based in the Galway / Mayo region.
Responsibilities and key activities include:
1. Ensuring safety is a priority
2. Maintaining a healthy safety record and ensuring the company ethos of safety is positively filtered down to all on-site
3. To monitor, evaluate and act upon any health and safety conditions injurious to the health and safety in his/her area and promote improvement and prevention through advice, education and enforcement of appropriate legislation.
4. To advise and assist the SHEQ Manager in the assessment of staff safety development and training needs.
5. To assist in company health and safety audits and attend meetings when required.
6. Preparation of method statements, risk assessments, update safety statements
7. Monitoring and contributing to company policies.
Desired Skills and Experience:
8. Proven track record within the construction industry on accident-free sites.
9. Experience with ISO 9001, 14001, 18001 and SafeT Cert is an advantage.
10. Knowledge and experience in H&S Legislation, H&S Procedures, in particular, maintenance of company policies and procedures with a view to continually monitoring legislative updates and best practice guidelines.
11. Previous experience with the drafting of tender documentation and prequalification's a distinct advantage.
12. A team-player with a positive attitude and highly developed interpersonal communication skills and cultural sensitivity.
13. Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence personnel at all levels within an organisation.
14. Excellent organisational skills are essential.
15. Excellent demonstrated computer skills, including proficiency in using common word software, spreadsheet software, database applications, project and presentation software, and email, contact management.
Qualifications and Experience
16. Professional H&S Degree Qualification
17. 4 years' experience in the construction industry
18. In-depth knowledge of Irish Health and Safety legislation
19. Safepass and Manual Handling
