The role
The IT Programme Manager is responsible for planning and delivering technology programmes that support the business. The role oversees multiple projects, manages budgets and risks, and ensures work is delivered on time and to a high standard. Working closely with business leaders, IT teams, and suppliers, the Programme Manager ensures new systems and changes are successfully implemented and adopted across the organisation.
Key accountabilities
Programme Leadership
* Oversee end-to-end delivery of large-scale IT and business transformation programmes.
* Define programme scope, roadmap, dependencies, and resource plans.
* Maintain governance structures, steering groups, RAID logs, and programme reporting.
* Manage budgets, financial tracking, and benefits realisation.
Technology Delivery
* Lead major system implementations, upgrades, integrations, and data platform work.
* Partner with IT teams and vendors to ensure technical alignment.
* Oversee vendor selection, contracts, and performance management.
* Ensure robust testing (SIT/UAT), cutover planning, and production readiness.
* Stakeholder & Change Management
* Collaborate with underwriting, claims, finance, actuarial, compliance, and operations leadership.
* Communicate programme status, risks, and decisions clearly to senior stakeholders.
* Support organisational readiness, training, communications, and adoption activities.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
* Promote best practice in project/programme delivery using Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid methods.
* Identify opportunities to streamline processes and reduce delivery risk.
* Mentor PMs, BAs, and delivery team members
Skills & experience
* 8+ years leading complex and high-value projects/programmes, ideally within regulated environments such as insurance or financial services.
* Communication: Advanced verbal and written communication skills; able to distil complex topics for executive and non-technical audiences
* Leadership: Strong leadership presence; sets direction, drives accountability, and challenges teams and individuals to achieve ambitious goals.
* Stakeholder Management: Expert in building alignment across departments, leading crossfunctional discussions, and resolving conflict constructively.
* Delivery & Governance: Demonstrated success in designing and implementing structured governance and assurance frameworks.
* Problem-Solving: Resourceful in finding ways around barriers and delivering outcomes in challenging circumstances.
