About the Role
The Open Research Librarian plays a vital role in supporting our research community by developing and delivering services that promote open research practices.
Key Responsibilities
1. Open Research
* Lead the promotion and delivery of support for researchers on open access publishing and disseminating RCSI research outputs through open research practices.
* Collaborate with library colleagues to coordinate the development, promotion, and delivery of research support services.
* Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders as appropriate.
2. Repository Management
* Manage the daily operation of the repository, ensuring effective processes are in place and consistent standards are followed.
* Work with staff to manage workloads and monitor new publications.
* Plan the ongoing development of the repository to meet the needs of RCSI.
3. OA Agreements and Copyright
* Provide expert guidance and support on scholarly communications issues, including authors' rights and licensing.
* Promote open access publishing agreements and manage approvals.
* Provide copyright advice to users and update guidance on copyright.
4. Research Visibility and Impact
* Support researchers on using bibliometric tools to evaluate impact and provide metrics for promotions and grant applications.
* Offer assistance on maintaining researcher profiles on RIMS and other services.
* Promote the use of ORCiD and highlight its benefits.
5. Line Management and Supervision
* Provide direction and supervision to paraprofessional staff supporting research support.
6. Training and Development
* Develop outreach and training on open access publishing and the evolving scholarly communications landscape.
* Maintain online guidance and educate users on open research practices.
Our ideal candidate will have experience in academic libraries and working with digital content. They will be able to demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development and be an excellent communicator with strong IT skills.
