Overview
Optum is a global organisation that delivers care, aided by technology to help millions of people live healthier lives. The Principal Insights Analyst - Healthcare Economics will take a leadership role in the development and implementation of advanced reporting and analytic approaches/tools to support clinical teams, working cross-functionally to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation.
Responsibilities
* Architect the solutions; collaborate with stakeholders and internal business partners to understand business requirements and translate them into analytical solutions
* Design and develop data queries and programs through SQL and/or Python to create models that build actionable insights around key drivers of health care trends (e.g., medical cost, utilisation)
* Present insights to leadership in clear, actionable formats accessible to a variety of audiences
* Identify gaps, process improvements, and automation opportunities, and lead execution
* Anticipate customer needs, deliver solutions to meet them, and forecast/quantify impact to the business
* Design and maintain user-friendly dashboards that visualise clinical data from diverse sources
* Demonstrate subject matter expertise through self-guided analyses
* Utilise a broad range of analytic approaches including predictive analytics, trend analysis, and data visualisation
* Comply with and contribute to data governance, project planning, validation, and documentation standards
* Mentor junior resources to develop their analytic skills
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in a relevant field (data science, analytics, mathematics, economics, business, statistics, engineering, or finance) or equivalent experience
* Extensive experience in an analytical role involving data interrogation, analysis, and visualization
* Experience with statistical models and understanding of different statistical methods
* Proven track record of leading analytic projects
* Intermediate proficiency in SQL and at least one scripting language such as R or Python
* Intermediate proficiency with data visualization/dashboard tools (e.g., Power BI)
Preferred Qualifications
* Master's Degree (or higher) in a relevant field
* Experience or knowledge of cloud-based data analytics (e.g., AWS, Azure, Snowflake)
* Extensive experience presenting to senior and non-technical audiences
* Advanced experience in Machine Learning or AI model development and deployment

* Interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with internal customers across departments
* Creative problem solving and critical thinking
* Ability to prioritize multiple complex assignments with ongoing deadlines
