In 2023 Egis acquired JB Barry & Partners, an engineering firm which has worked on major projects such as the Ringsend Wastewater Treatment Plant in Dublin and the N17/N18 Gort to Tuam PPP motorway scheme in Galway. The Egis engineering division is now almost 200 people strong across four offices in Dublin, Castlebar, Cork and Limerick.About the RoleDesign and develop electrical systems for water and wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, and related infrastructure.Author detailed technical specifications, control philosophies, cable/load schedules, network diagrams, and technical reports.Review MCC schematics, contractor calculations, and PLC/SCADA architectures; close design gaps, issue technical submittals, and respond to RFIs.Prepare technical submittals; assist FAT, SAT, QA/QC walk‑downs, and commissioningSupervise junior team members and review work items, providing mentorship, ensuring quality standards are met, and fostering professional development within the team.What do we need from youEssential:Hold an honours degree (level 8 in the National Framework of Qualifications), or equivalent professional qualification, in electrical engineering as applicable to the role.Have at least 3 years’ relevant experience in engineering consultancy or EPC (within water, wastewater, or comparable heavy‑process plants)Demonstrated understanding of water‑treatment unit operations and the ability to assess existing EICA assets to develop upgrade or new‑build designs.Competent in producing SLDs, Block Cable & Network‑Infrastructure diagrams, and providing input to GAs, 3‑D/BIM models and P&IDs.Exposure to PLC/SCADA integration and a working understanding of LV/MV protection coordination principles.Proficient with AutoCAD Electrical/MEP and at least one electrical‑design platform (TrimbleProDesign, ETAP, EPLAN or equivalent).Strong teamwork, written and verbal communication, and stakeholder‑management abilities; comfortable interfacing with multidisciplinary teams, vendors and contractors.Desirable:A minimum of five years’ experience on water/wastewater‑treatment or other major process‑industry projects, covering the full project lifecycle.Chartered Engineer (CEng) or actively pursuing chartershipProven capability with detailed EICA calculations (cable sizing, voltage‑drop, short‑circuit, earthing, lighting, fault studies) and equipment selection (MCCs/VFDs, transformers, motors, instrumentation).Working knowledge of I.S.10101:2020, IEC/BSEN standards and WIMES specificationsWorking Knowledge of Irish and EU Health & Safety legislation (e.g., Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Regulations).Project Management/Contract Management experience.Experience in liaison with ESB and Grid ConnectionsFull clean driving licence and willingness to travel to client sites as requiredWhat's in it for you?Why join Egis?Joining Egis means, above all, sharing our values as a people-first company, strongly committed to sustainability and innovation and determined to address today’s biggest challenges: fighting climate change, facilitating the digital transition and meeting the needs of growing populations.In Ireland, Egis is delivering some of the most iconic projects, from motorways to tunnels, water and energy services, via rail to cyber, designing smart, green infrastructure, transport and buildings, connecting people and creating a sustainable future for communities everywhere.We are passionate about solving our clients’ most complex challenges by delivering climate-responsible growth that meets the needs of communities, industries and the planet.Local experience backed by global reachEgis engineering foundation and pedigree is in JB Barry's local legacy.
