Overview

Mbryonics is at the forefront of free space optical communications. Our product portfolio covers a wide range of emerging technologies from photonic integrated circuits to advanced optical systems and embedded software solutions. Our optical communications systems are integrated and deployed in satellite communications systems. The work is exciting and challenging and is at the forefront of the technology domains. As part of our expansion, we are currently looking for a suitably motivated Senior Opto-Mechanical Design Engineer to join our group.

What You’ll Do

* Be a key part of the senior mechanical engineering team and help deliver on Mbryonics’ goals from optical communications terminals to the underpinning manufacturing processes.
* Prototype designs in our fully equipped on-site manufacturing workshop to enable a “test early” development approach.
* Develop and continually improve engineering practices and procedures within a growing start-up environment.
* Apply CAD design, closed-form calculations, finite element analysis (FEA) and prototyping to realize various opto-mechanical systems and ensure optical performance across environments.
* Develop novel solutions for and improve existing opto-mechanical systems through innovative approaches and by leveraging your engineering background.
* Ensure mechanical designs meet space-grade standards (e.g., MIL‑STD, ECSS); produce and maintain GD&T-controlled drawings, procedures, and Bills of Materials under formal configuration control.
* Adopt a hands-on, proactive approach to progress product development in a multidisciplinary environment.
* Mentor and develop the team while achieving your own deadlines.
* Prototype building, testing, documentation and process development, plus producing support documentation.
* Work with managers to implement quality measures and standards, with the goal of scaling up to high-volume manufacturing.

Who You Are

* 5+ years of mechanical, aerospace, optical or related engineering experience
* B.Eng/M.Eng in Mechanical, Optical, Aerospace Engineering or a relevant field
* Understanding of early-stage prototyping and product development
* Exposure to common manufacturing processes
* Experience with commercial CAD packages (SolidWorks, NX, or similar) and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, Femap, Nastran)

Desirable Requirements / Technical Skills / Education

* Familiarity with MAIT and product/spacecraft integration, including mechanical, thermal and electrical interfacing
* Knowledge of early-stage prototyping, tolerance control, alignment, and thermal stability in optical systems
* Experience designing and qualifying opto-mechanical hardware for space or high-reliability environments
* Exposure to space industry standards (ECSS/MIL-STD), CI/CD for mechanical releases, configuration control, and quality systems (ISO 9001, etc.)
* Knowledge of design and integration of optical elements (lenses, mirrors, filters) into dynamic or thermally challenging environments
* Knowledge of or keen interest in the space sector is advantageous
* Active engagement in the field of opto-mechanical engineering and ongoing professional development
* Proposal writing for competitive tenders and research grants
* Experience designing parts for CNC milling manufacturing

What’s In It For You

* Career growth: Contribute to a world-class space-age program while developing leadership skills in a state-of-the-art manufacturing environment
* Collaboration: Work with talented professionals across disciplines to drive impactful solutions
* Innovation: Be part of a team pioneering advancements in manufacturing engineering for cutting-edge FSO systems
* Work-life balance: Flexible work schedules and a comprehensive benefits package

If you're ready to take your career to new heights and drive the future of space-age communication, apply now and join the Mbryonics team as our Senior Opto-Mechanical Design Engineer.
