Ecommerce product engineer (recent graduate role)

Two Wombats
Product engineer
Posted: 12 March
Offer description

As an eCommerce Product Engineer, you will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and work closely with our wider eCommerce team to build and maintain our online business. We operate a flat structure within the business without many layers of management.
You will play a vital role in supporting the technical health and product roadmap of our Shopify store across 10+ international markets. Working alongside the team, you will help bridge the gap between the digital storefront and the physical supply chain, writing code and configuring systems to ensure a seamless customer experience from website to warehouse.
This is a role for a hybrid thinker—someone who loves writing code to build great features but also understands the business logic behind an eCommerce conversion. You will work in a start‑up with an experienced, cutting‑edge team, making it an incredible environment to learn, collaborate, and progress at a fast pace.
Key Responsibilities
1. Shopify Engineering & Product UX

Site Development: Collaborate with the team to build, test, and deploy daily site updates. Use frontend development skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Shopify Liquid) to build landing pages, update navigation, and roll out promotional features.
Release QA & Bug Fixing: Support the technical quality assurance process for website changes. Assist in testing new features, configuring third‑party apps, and debugging design tweaks across mobile and desktop.
User Journey Optimization: Treat the website as a product. Help the team monitor the path‑to‑purchase to identify technical friction points (e.g., broken scripts, slow load times, checkout errors) and assist in shipping solutions to fix them.

2. Systems Integration & Data Flow

Data Architecture: Support the maintenance of our product data. Ensure backend inventory systems communicate seamlessly with the Shopify frontend via APIs and bulk data management.
Inventory Integrity: Manage the technical interplay between our physical warehouse and the digital store. Monitor and update workflows that keep Shopify stock levels accurate to prevent overselling.
Technical Troubleshooting: Investigate order flow issues as they arise—digging into the backend to figure out why a webhook failed, why an order didn't sync to the warehouse ERP, or why automated tracking emails didn't fire.

3. Multi‑Market Technical Architecture

International Infrastructure: Support backend configuration for our 10+ localized sites. Manage technical apps, Shopify Markets settings, and translation workflows that serve customized content to different regions.
Localization QA: Work with the team to ensure the logic dictating currency conversions, regional shipping rates, and localized content triggers correctly for users in Germany, France, Spain, etc.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Education: Bachelor’s degree (Computer Science, Business Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related).
Experience: 0–2 years of experience. Open to recent graduates with strong technical internships or junior developers who want to move into a product‑focused role within a collaborative team.
Technical Stack: Code in Python, JavaScript, or a similar language. Comfortable with APIs, structured data, version control (Git). Experience with SQL is a strong advantage. Comfortable with basic web technologies (HTML, CSS) and willing to learn Shopify’s templating language (Liquid).
Systems & Logic: Understand complex systems architecture and how changes in one place can impact others.
Data Competency: Comfortable working with large datasets, CSV exports, and basic scripting or advanced Excel/Google Sheets functions to manage product data in bulk.
Language: Native or Bilingual (C2) English Proficiency required.

What We Offer

Competitive Salary: Expected salary region €40k.
High Visibility: Reporting directly to the COO provides a unique opportunity to learn how a tech‑driven business is run at a senior level.
Growth: Massive opportunities to expand coding skills and product management expertise by working alongside an experienced team in a dynamic startup.
Culture: Collaborative and supportive work environment with a strong focus on innovation.
Hybrid Working: 4 days per week in our office (Charlemont) & 1 day work from home.

How to Apply
Send your CV detailing your experience, along with any links to your GitHub or previous web projects, to careers@twowombats.com with the subject line: eCommerce Product Engineer - (INSERT NAME).
The recruitment process will be in 3 stages

Initial Application & CV Review
Task Stage (Focused on Shopify/Technical workflows): We will send the applicant a technical/logic task to complete. This allows you to understand the type of problem‑solving you’ll be doing, and allows us to see how you approach coding and operational challenges.
Final Interview: Successful completion of the task phase will lead to an in‑person interview in our Dublin office. This will be just one interview, heavily focused on investigating the methodology and code behind your task.
