Overall Purpose of Job
Provide professional nursing skills in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care for assigned patients, while ensuring exceptional patient care in an environment focused on quality, respect, caring and compassion.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
Willingness to champion and promote the advancement of technology to enhance nursing organization and patient care, including roles such as "Train the Trainer" in Patient Records, Safe Staffing Framework, and Dependency Acuity tools.
Act as a "Link Nurse" where required, carrying out duties such as report writing, data collection, meeting attendance, peer support, training and education, facilitated through rostering by local ward management.
Lead or participate in unit-specific and hospital-wide quality improvement projects, collecting, inputting and analyzing data as outlined in the projects or as designated by senior nursing staff.
Willingness to pursue relevant education and training to enhance scope of practice, e.g., Advanced Patient Assessment Skills course, and to support new services, developments, or implementation of strategies tailored to local business requirements.
Deputise for CNM 2 / Clinical Co‑ordinator on a short-term basis when required.
Clinical Responsibilities
Undertake duties of an Enhanced Staff Nurse (ICU), providing physical and psychological care to Beacon Patients.
Monitor and promote high standards of nursing care and documentation as per Beacon Hospital policy.
Demonstrate proficient specialist skills and knowledge in ICU clinical practice and proficiency in the use of all equipment used in the care of critically ill patients, including teaching junior staff.
Work within professional guidelines set by the NMBI Code of Conduct for Nurses and carry out nursing practice in accordance with Beacon Hospital Policies, including medication control and administration.
Foster a learning environment for staff, assisting less experienced staff in skill development, and supporting senior nursing staff.
Participate in ongoing implementation and practice of Clinical Governance / Clinical Risk Management specific to ICU.
Managerial Responsibilities
Deputise for CNM2 / Clinical Coordinator in their absence.
Actively report incidents and encourage reporting for Quality Management.
Identify hazards within the department and initiate preventative measures, including electrical, chemical, and transport risks.
Monitor and supervise safe maintenance of equipment, reporting issues to the Clinical Coordinator or their deputy.
Participate in the Joint Commissioning Accreditation (JCI) process and help prepare the hospital for the JCI survey.
Provide senior nursing support within ICU and promote effective inter‑professional teamwork to optimise patient care and staff development.
Personal & Professional Responsibilities
Act as a proficient practitioner and role model, involved in staff orientation, preceptorship, and educational programmes, assessing competence as required.
Maintain and continuously update own knowledge, participate in ongoing education, and engage in annual performance reviews.
Address any problems or potential problems with clinical leadership and undertake any other duties appropriate to the post as assigned by hospital authority.
Educational Responsibilities
Keep up to date with mandatory training such as Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Moving and Manual Handling, and Mandatory Training.
Participate in quality and audit programmes and act as the named preceptor to new staff or student nurses as allocated.
Complete Enhanced Staff Nurse ICU competencies as required and pursue educational and professional development, balancing clinical practice with skill acquisition.
Qualifications
Registered General Nurse with NMBI Registration (essential).
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (essential).
Post‑Graduate Qualification in Critical Care (desirable).
Preceptorship experience (essential).
ACLS certification (desirable).
Minimum of 5 years Cardiothoracic or Surgical ICU experience.
Evidence of positive contribution to intensive care and preceptorship of adult critical care course students.

Experience in mentorship/preceptorship and proven clinical and managerial ability.
Teaching and assessing skills, basic IT proficiency, and presentation experience.
Commitment to pre and post registration nurse education, and demonstration of teaching in clinical areas.
