We're energisers, a team of 21,000 colleagues energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels, while living our commitment to positive change in communities. Here, you can find more purpose, passion, and potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently — we make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.
About your team:
We’re the pride of Ireland. Bord Gáis Energy has powered the nation’s homes and businesses for nearly 40 years. Now, we’re beyond gas and electric, at the heart of Ireland’s energy transition, strengthening energy security and helping customers prepare for a net zero future.
About your role:
Bord Gáis Energy is establishing a new Energy Management Centre (EMC) in Ireland, and we’re seeking Shift Operation Technicians to join this team! The EMC manages energy assets across Ireland, the UK, and Europe, including Gas Peaking Power Plants and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). There is potential to manage additional types of energy assets in the future.
As a Shift Operation Technician, you’ll interpret data from multiple sources, respond promptly to event notifications, and follow procedures to resolve and escalate issues, ensuring safety and operational continuity.
The role requires working a 24/7 shift pattern independently, taking initiative, making decisions, and playing a key role in safety and outage management.
Here’s what you’ll be doing:
* Collaborating with teams to support safety and environmental culture, ensuring compliance with safety, contractual, REMIT, permit, and license requirements.
* Monitoring energy assets to maximize efficiency according to contractual and regulatory requirements.
* Controlling and dispatching assets per local regulations and rules.
* Managing events and issues, escalating as needed, and supporting investigations for continuous improvement.
* Communicating professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
* Maintaining accurate records and completing routines timely.
* Ensuring thorough handovers between shifts for safety and operational continuity.
* Working efficiently within SLA-driven environments.
* Producing reports on asset availability and performance.
* Adhering to company policies, procedures, and ethics.
Here’s what we’re looking for:
* Degree or significant experience in Electrical, Controls, Process, or Systems Engineering.
* Knowledge of energy and system service markets; understanding asset interactions is a plus.
* Experience with operating energy assets and SCADA systems.
* Strong data analysis skills; proficiency with OSI PI, Power BI, and Excel.
* Ability to analyze and present large datasets.
* Experience with incident management, root cause analysis, and action tracking is advantageous.
* Technical understanding of equipment and processes.
