Health and Safety Officer - (Full-time, permanent role)
Due to the on-going expansion of our Cork Hospital, we are currently recruiting for a Health and Safety Officer, on a full-time basis, for a permanent opportunity.
Duties within the role include:
* Lead and champion the Health and Safety function and assist with further developing our Culture of Safety and Behavioural Standards at our Cork hospital.
* Carry out departmental Risk Assessments, Risk Registers and with the assistance of the Facilities Manager oversee the co-ordination of the Emergency Disaster Management programs on-site.
* Provide guidance and advice on general safety, fire prevention, security management, management of hazardous materials and engage in safety rounding and audits.
* Maintain the hospital safety statement and ensure compliance with JCI Facilities Management and Safety Standards in accordance with Joint Commission International (JCI) Standards, Health & Safety Authority (HSA) and legislative and codes of practice requirements.
* Develop safety related Standard Operating Procedures, Policies and Plans.
* Participate in hospital safety and quality improvement committees to drive and promote the safety agenda.
* Investigate Accidents, Incident & Near Misses and deliver safety related training to hospital staff.
* Maintain hospital Chemical Database and co-ordinate DGSA statutory obligations.
* Liaise with Facility Manager re Contractor safety management and induction and provide safety input on the safety management of new projects or building and facility upgrades.
* Work closely with the Infection Prevention and Control Teams and Heads of Departments to promote the health and safety agenda.
Candidate Requirements
* Degree level Qualification in Safety, Health and Welfare (recently qualified graduates with ambition and drive will be considered for the post).
* Knowledge of Safety, Health and Welfare legislation, standards, codes of practice is required.
* Excellent Communication, Interpersonal and Organisational Skills are essential for this role.
* You must demonstrate the following skills sets: motivated, influencing, excellent communicator, team player, self-starter, willingness to learn and engage.
* Excellent IT skills, numeracy skills
* Self- starter and capable of working independently.
