As a Project Director at WSP in the PMCM Rail team you will be responsible for leading the delivery of a single large, complex rail project or a programme of smaller rail projects, of regional, national, and international significance.
You will be accountable for the projects/ programme being delivered in a safe, high quality, timely and budget-compliant manner.
Our Project Directors think strategically, manage requirements, budgets, schedules and risks, and influence others to deliver successfully together.
They see the bigger picture, communicate vision, solve problems and take on new challenges.
They collaborate with external clients and multidisciplinary teams, delivering programmes of regional and national importance.
A Little More About Your Role
Leadership
Lead and deliver on a specific large complex project or programme of work.
Implement governance frameworks, controls, and reporting mechanisms to ensure effective project/ programme management.
Ensure the project/ programme is delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to required quality standards.
Deliver effective development and management of suppliers to meet complex project or programme requirements.
Direct and lead project teams, enhancing effectiveness through training, coaching and mentoring.
Client Liaison
Act as principal point of contact for the Client, ensuring needs and expectations are met throughout the lifecycle of the works.
Develop and manage Client relationships through effective listening and influencing skills.
Stakeholder Management
Engage at a senior level with multiple internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and local authorities.
Address stakeholder concerns and manage expectations effectively.
Commercial and Risk Management
Accountable for contracts being managed in line with contract rules of engagement (including NEC3/4).
Accountable for management of project/ programme budgets, tracking and reporting.
Optimise resource utilisation and ensure financial performance aligns with project/ programme goals.
Identify key risks to project/ programme and ensure suitable mitigation measures are actioned.
Safety and Compliance
Deliver safe performance and compliance with CDM regulations, discharging CDM duties as required.
Ensure all activities are conducted safely and environmental responsible, adhering to governance standards.
Project/Programme Planning
Manage project/programme governance, planning, controls and reporting arrangements.
Facilitate reviews of the strategic plan, monitor progress and assess alignment with objectives, identifying interventions as needed.
Innovation and Efficiency
Drive innovative solutions and implement processes to enhance efficiency and productivity.
Integrate new technologies and methodologies to improve overall performance.
Drive continuous improvement in strategy, efficiency, industry influence and operational improvements with measurable benefits.
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate
A degree in a relevant engineering or management discipline (e.g. project or construction management, engineering, science, or building).
Chartered membership of a relevant professional body, or near completion of this status would be advantageous.
APM / MSP / PMI / PRINCE2 / Six Sigma certifications considered beneficial.
Experience in project/programme management, including technical and project controls.
Experience in a senior management role on multiple significant projects, with demonstrated client-side project/programme delivery in a commercial environment.
Experience working at senior level with entities such as Network Rail, HS2, TfGM, and other rail-related organisations considered advantageous.
Experience building successful project/programme delivery teams.
Team leader, strategic thinker, solution-focused, responsive to client issues.
Strong commercial focus, business acumen, strategic insight and financial astuteness.
Effective leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
Working experience managing NEC 3/4 contracts.
