Principal Design Engineer (Mechanical or Electrical) Galway (Office Lead)
A leading, sustainability-driven building services consultancy is looking for an experienced Principal Design Engineer to head up its new Galway office. This is a senior leadership role suitable for either a mechanical or electrical engineer with strong technical ability, project leadership experience, and the drive to build and grow a regional team.
This role offers the chance to lead local operations, shape the future of a new office, and work on a diverse portfolio of high-quality projects across education, public sector, heritage, and commercial developments.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the Galway office and manage all aspects of team performance and project delivery
Deliver high-quality mechanical or electrical engineering design across a range of building projects
Ensure projects meet performance, quality, and budget expectations
Act as a key point of contact for clients and help strengthen long-term relationships
Play a strategic role in developing the Galway office, including business development and recruitment
Mentor and support junior engineers, promoting technical excellence and career growth
Champion best practice and sustainability-led design within the team
Requirements
Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or a closely related discipline)
Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it)
8+ years experience in a building services design role, with proven leadership on complex projects
Proficient in relevant design software (e.g. Revit, IES, Amtech)
Knowledge of BIM processes and environmental assessment methods such as BREEAM
Strong client relationship management and business development skills
Full right to work in Ireland
