Purpose of the Role
The post holder will work with the Clinical Lead of the NPPO to develop Psycho-Oncology Service within the National Children Cancer Service. They will be expected to work to provide and coordinate psychology care alongside the other principals in the service.

The post holder will work with the Clinical Lead of the NPPO to develop Psycho-Oncology Service within the National Children Cancer Service. They will be expected to work to provide and coordinate psychology care alongside the other principals in the service.
The post holder will work within the National Paediatric Psycho-Oncology Service within the National Children Cancer Service (NCCS) providing a service to children and adolescents with cancer and their families. This service is led by a Principal Psychologist and it was launched by the minister of health in 2023 together with the CAYA Psycho-Oncology Model of care. The post holder will work directly with children and adolescents with cancer (Malignant Haematology and Oncology). Many patients will be attending long term from infancy to adolescence and the post holder will need to be able to support children across the life span, focusing on supporting both patients and families through cancer diagnosis and treatment (including end of treatment, relapse, palliation and end of life). A key role of the post holder will be to ensure that psychological factors are taken into account in the children's and adolescents' medical assessment and treatment.
Essential Criteria
* Hold a recognised University degree or diploma obtained with first or second class honours in which psychology was taken as a major subject and honours obtained in that subject or hold a recognised qualification equivalent to above.
And
* Hold a relevant post-graduate professional qualification in Psychology recognised by the Psychological Society of Ireland.
Or
* Hold a postgraduate professional psychology qualification validated by the Department of Health and Children. Applicants should refer to the Dept. of Health & Children regulations on the Employment of Psychologists in the Health Services, as well as, the PSI Guidelines on Post Graduate Training & Qualifications. Candidates requiring validation to work in Ireland must provide proof of same at the time of application.
* Have 8 years' satisfactory postgraduate experience in Psychology inclusive of any time spent in pursuing a course leading to the postgraduate qualification.
* Possess the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the psycho-oncology post.
* Have experience working with children and adolescents preferably in a paediatric setting.
* The experience of and ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems/situations, working in a complex system facing death and dying of children.
* Demonstrated competence in clinical audit and research skills.
* Possess the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the post in psycho-oncology.
* Relevant experience in psychological assessment and therapeutic skills for children, adolescents and their families.
* Demonstrated competence in clinical audit and research skills.
* Demonstrated competence in teaching and training skills.
* Experience of formal clinical supervision of psychologists.
