Overall Purpose of Job
The advanced practice service is provided by nurses who practice at a higher level of capability as independent, autonomous and expert advanced practitioners. The overall purpose of the service is to provide safe, timely, evidence-based nurse-led care to patients at an advanced nursing level. This involves undertaking and documenting complete episodes of patient care, which include comprehensively assessing, diagnosing, planning, treating and discharging patients in accordance with collaboratively agreed local policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines and/or service level agreements/ memoranda of understanding. The ANP demonstrates advanced clinical and theoretical knowledge, critical thinking, clinical leadership and complex decision-making abilities.

Professional Practice Portfolio and Clinical Supervision
The ANP must maintain a professional practice portfolio, incorporating evidence of learning from continuing professional development, clinical supervision, reflective practice and review of his/her own scope of practice in accordance with regulatory requirements and service need.
The ANP will engage in the following clinical supervision;
Conduct a clinical supervision meeting with the Head of Endoscopy and Service Line Development Niamh Connor, monthly. The agenda for these meetings will include collaborative reflective practice, review of scope of practice and review of the ANP’s portfolio
Meet with other ANPs and candidate ANPs in the organisation via the Beacon Hospital Advanced Practice Forum
Engage with and/or maintain membership of relevant national expert groups for the practice area
Conduct audits of nurse prescribing as specified in the ANP’s Collaborative Practice Agreement / Beacon Hospital Nurse Prescribing Policy
Engage in continuous professional development activities relevant to the role e.g. attendance at scientific meetings, review of scientific literature, reflective practice, mentorship, workshops, e-learning, self-directed learning. Study days must be requested and approved by the ANP’s line manager
Service Review
The ANP will conduct service review meetings with the following individuals;
The Head of Endoscopy and Service Line Development (monthly)
Mentor Urology Consultant – to be decided (monthly)
The Director of Clinical Services (every 6 months)
These meetings will address such topics as service activity, role development, and opportunities for service improvement. Minutes of these meetings are filed in the ANPs portfolio.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

Main Clinical Goals
Assessment and Management:
Provide oversight for patients referred to the Rapid Access Prostate Clinic in conjunction with the Primary Consultants.
Provide expert assessment of urology patients
Implement timely and appropriate interventions to manage RAPC referrals to meet target timeframes.
Coordination of Care:
Facilitate coordination between Urology specialists, primary care providers, and other healthcare professionals.
Ensure seamless transitions between different levels of care, including inpatient, outpatient, and community services.
Patient and Family Support:
Provide psychological and emotional support to patients and their families.
Education of patient and families on RAPC pathway, including diagnostic interventions required, diagnosis and treatment plan.
Education and Training:
Provide training to staff to enhance their skills in managing RAPC patients.
Prevention of Unplanned Admissions:
Provide oversight of KPIs within Beacon RAPC, monitoring compliance and performance of said KPI’s
Develop and follow pathways and protocols to manage RAPC patients.
Review and challenge length of stay against best practice
Clinical Governance and Quality Improvement:
Monitor and evaluate the quality of care provided to ensure adherence to clinical guidelines and best practices.
Engage in continuous quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and service efficiency
Person Specification
Qualifications
Be registered in the Advanced Nurse Practitioner division of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland Register
Be registered in the Nurse Prescribers division of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland Register
Hold a Master of Science Degree (National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) Level 9 major academic award or equivalent) relevant to the clinical speciality
Possess the requisite knowledge and ability including a high standard of suitability and clinical, professional and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
Experience
Have extensive experience and clinical expertise i.e. a minimum of 5 years’ (full-time or an aggregate of 5 years’ full time) post-registration experience
Have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the specialist area
Have the ability to practice safely and effectively fulfilling his/her professional responsibility within his/her scope of practice
Have evidence of continuing professional development.
