Job Title:
Commercial Director
Location:
Dublin-based (regular travel across Ireland; visits to a regional head office as required)
About the company
This business is a leading fixed-fee law-searching specialist, providing property-related search reports to a large client base of solicitor firms, government departments and financial institutions. It delivers high-volume, time-critical searches that underpin major property transactions and has recently invested in an automated intelligence platform for conveyancing solicitors.
Role purpose
The Commercial Director will take full ownership of the commercial growth agenda, succeeding the current Managing Director in leading all client-facing and revenue-generating activity. The role is about leading from the front: building and deepening relationships with solicitors' firms, banks and other professional services clients, winning new business, and developing a modern, scalable commercial approach to unlock the next phase of growth.
Key responsibilities
* Own the commercial strategy and revenue delivery for the business, working closely with senior leadership and finance on budgets, pricing, performance and margin.
* Lead business development across Ireland, with a primary focus on Dublin and larger transaction hubs, targeting solicitors' firms, banks and other professional services users of property search services.
* Act as the primary senior contact for key accounts, maintaining and growing relationships with existing clients while systematically converting high-potential prospects from the existing market database.
* Develop and execute a structured sales plan (pipeline building, prospecting, client meetings, online meetings, proposals and tender responses) with clear activity and conversion metrics.
* Leverage and promote the automated legal search platform and wider digital capabilities to deepen client integration, improve client experience and strengthen long-term retention.
* Represent the business in the market as a credible, trusted senior partner to law firms and financial institutions, including attending industry events and networking or speaking opportunities where appropriate.
* Work collaboratively with operations and law-searching teams to ensure client commitments, SLAs and quality standards are consistently met as volumes grow.
Candidate profile
Experience
* Proven track record in senior commercial roles (e.g. Commercial Director, Head of Business Development, Sales Director, Senior Business Development Manager) within professional services, financial services, property/estate agency, data/credit services, or a related B2B service environment.
* Demonstrable success in selling to and working with solicitors' firms, banks or other regulated/professional services clients, with a clear understanding of how they operate and make decisions.
* Strong new business development and account growth experience, ideally in a market with a finite, relationship-driven client base.
* Comfortable interpreting P&L, management accounts and commercial KPIs, and using this insight to drive decisions on pricing, focus and resource.
* Experience operating as a largely self-sufficient field-based commercial lead, including managing your own time, travel and pipeline.
* Advantageous: exposure to property-related services, conveyancing workflows, law-searching, or data/insights services sold into financial institutions and law firms.
Skills and attributes
* Highly proactive self-starter with strong personal drive; thrives on being client-facing rather than office-based.
* Persuasive relationship-builder, able to build credibility quickly with senior partners in law firms and decision-makers in banks and institutions.
* Structured, disciplined approach to sales, including pipeline management, activity planning, follow-up and closing.
* Commercially sharp, numerate and comfortable with budgets, pricing and deal economics.
* Strong communicator (written and verbal), able to tailor messages to partners, solicitors, finance stakeholders and internal operational teams.
* Tech-aware and comfortable using CRM, online meeting tools and social media platforms (e.g. LinkedIn) to support business development and profile-building.
