About Life Scientific
In crop protection, formulation is where ambition meets reality.
Life Scientific | Dublin (Hybrid)
Life Scientific operates in a $250 billion global market, building high-quality, differentiated crop protection products through scientific precision and disciplined execution.
We don’t innovate for curiosity. We innovate to deliver products that work in farmers’ fields — reliably and commercially.
As our innovation pipeline grows, formulation excellence is becoming a critical differentiator.
The Opportunity
This role exists for one reason: to make sure our products don’t just work in theory - they work in reality.
As Formulation Development Scientist, you will be the technical engine behind our formulation-led innovation strategy.
You will take agronomic problems, biological insights and product concepts — and translate them into robust, manufacturable, scalable formulations.
Job responsibilities include solving complex challenges such as:

Solubility and compatibility
Stability under stress
Scale‑up sensitivity
Manufacturing variability
Regulatory constraints

You will design with the end in mind: not just efficacy, but manufacturability, shelf life, user safety and commercial viability.
You will build solutions that survive transfer into Development and Manufacturing.
This Role Is For You If You…
You get frustrated when promising concepts fail because formulation was an afterthought.
You instinctively ask: Will this scale? Will this survive transport and storage? What happens under stress? Are we building something robust — or something fragile?
You enjoy solving messy physical chemistry problems and think in systems — not just ingredients. You prioritize practicality over novelty, avoid overengineering, and converge on efficient solutions.
You understand that good formulation design reduces regulatory risk and commercial headaches later, and you are comfortable working cross‑functionally with biology, regulatory, analytical, manufacturing teams, acting as a technical translator between them.
You don’t chase novelty for novelty’s sake; you build platforms, reduce repeat failure, and improve the system each time.
What You’ll Do
Design & Develop High‑Performance Formulations

Design and optimise formulations across multiple innovation pillars
Translate biological and agronomic requirements into clear formulation design criteria
Solve complex challenges including solubility, stability, incompatibility and delivery performance
Apply hypothesis‑driven experimentation and targeted stress testing to converge on robust solutions

Build for Scale & Manufacturability

Design with manufacturing robustness and scalability in mind from the earliest stages
Anticipate and mitigate scale‑up risks
Support smooth technical transfer into Development and Manufacturing
Reduce late‑stage formulation failures through disciplined early testing

Operate at the Centre of Innovation Delivery

Collaborate closely with Biology, Analytical, Regulatory, Portfolio and Manufacturing teams
Support stage‑gate reviews with clear technical rationale and risk assessment
Conduct technical diligence of external partners and technologies
Ensure formulation data is robust, structured and transfer‑ready

Create Reusable Knowledge & Platforms

Capture formulation learnings to build reusable platforms
Identify repeat failure modes and eliminate them
Strengthen Life Scientific’s formulation capability as a long‑term competitive advantage

What You Bring
You bring strong scientific depth and practical execution discipline.
Essential

MSc or PhD in Formulation Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical or Materials Science
5+ years’ experience in formulation development within crop protection, agrochemicals or other regulated industries
Strong hands‑on experience with liquid and solid formulations (SC, EC, EW, CS, etc.)
Experience with stability testing, troubleshooting and manufacturing transfer
Working understanding of regulatory requirements for formulated products

Desirable but not essential

Experience with nano‑enabled systems, capsule suspensions or controlled‑release technologies
Exposure to hybrid chemical–biological formulations
Familiarity with reverse‑engineering or advanced delivery systems

What Success Looks Like
Within 24–36 months, you will:

Delivered multiple robust, transfer‑ready formulations into Development
Reduced late‑stage formulation instability and scale‑up failures
Built reusable formulation platforms that accelerate future innovation
Earned strong credibility with Development, Manufacturing and Regulatory teams
Strengthened formulation as a core differentiator within Life Scientific’s innovation model

Why Join Life Scientific?
Because here, formulation is not a support function. It’s a strategic lever.
You will operate at the intersection of chemistry, biology and commercial reality — in a business that values disciplined execution over scientific theatre.
You won’t be buried in incremental reformulation work. You’ll build differentiated products that move through Development and into global markets.
It won’t be simple, but it will be meaningful. And when a product performs — consistently, safely and at scale — you’ll know exactly why.
