ROLE PURPOSE:
Leads the co-development of the strategy for the Pizza Must Win Battle (MWB), ensuring continued success now and in the future. The Product Development Manager (PDM) actively implements strategy development within their MWBs and Secondary Battlefields, and is accountable for developing and delivering the Innovation pipeline and associated R&D work programme to meet MWB growth and renovation targets.
This role is crucial for creating and delivering a pipeline of consumer-led innovation (NPD, EPD) to achieve financial targets of their MWBs. They ensure their product portfolio, both new and existing, remains relevant, competitive, and appealing to consumers in a changing world.
Responsibilities
R&D Programme
* Develop an R&D portfolio aligned with key priorities for each MWB, focusing on “fewer, bigger, better,” with clear R&D deliverables, collaborating with Marketing and R&D Packaging.
* Manage the portfolio actively to maximize return on investment, highlighting when prioritization discussions are needed.
* Implement projects across in-house factories and co-packers.
* Lead projects across F4G, Insourcing, and Business Continuity.
* Manage product delivery across Brand, Product Line, Export, and Food Service channels according to business needs.
Governance
* Provide accurate and informative input to gate documents.
* Ensure all new developments align with CSR strategy and Nutrition/Health targets.
Leading & Developing Resources
* Deploy R&D resources effectively to maximize ROI.
* Develop team members and support their career development programs.
* Deliver programmes within the budget set by R&D leadership.
* Develop product strategies for key products to maintain relevance and competitive advantage.
* Achieve product superiority over key competitors for leading SKUs in each MWB.
* Lead Innovation Category Management (ICM) across the segment portfolio.
R&D Contribution
* Participate in R&D functional workstreams as required.
Qualifications
* Relevant Science Degree or significant experience in FMCG product development or technical roles.
* Proven success in innovation within food or other FMCG categories.
* Strong understanding of consumer behavior and market trends.
* Experience in concept development and rapid prototyping.
* Basic knowledge of Intellectual Property, including patents, exclusivity, know-how, and trade secrets, to generate competitive advantage.
