Job Purpose
The Night Porter will be responsible for maintaining the safety, security, and smooth operation of the property during overnight hours. Provide essential porter support, security presence, and general assistance to staff, clients, and visitors. Making sure any issues are handled promptly and professionally while the main daytime staff are off duty. You'll report to the Operations Manager in Ushers Island.

* Hours: Night shifts (e.g., 21:30–07:30) on a rotating roster including weekends.
* Environment: Fast-paced clinical setting with variable client needs; potential for emergency response.
* Compliance with Health & Safety and Infection Control policies mandatory.

Core Job Requirements

* Maintain the security of the building by monitoring entrances, exits and CCTV systems
* Respond to emergencies (e.g., fire alarms), assist with evacuations, and maintain clear access in corridors and emergency exits.
* Carry out regular patrols and Health and Safety checks of the premises to ensure safety and report any concerns
* Assist clients with late-night requests and inquiries.
* Provide support and reassurance to clients during overnight hours; a calm, reassuring manner is required.
* Perform light cleaning and tidying in corridors, offices, waiting rooms; empty bins and ensure general cleanliness of shared space, laundry assistance if needed.
* Log patrols and incidents; communicate effectively with on-call teams and handover staff at shift end.
* Use basic IT systems as needed (e.g., incident report, security systems, pagers, walkie-talkies, panic alarms, refuge audio system, intercome and audio devices)
* Prepare areas for the next day. Set up and clear meeting rooms or clinical areas used overnight as necessary.
* Handle emergencies calmly and follow established procedures
* Answer Phones
* Completing night reports and hand over relevant information to the morning team
* Reporting any failures to the operations manager.
* Provide assistance to the Operations team if and when required.

Requirements Of All Dublin Simon Staff

* Commitment to the purpose of Dublin Simon Community and to work within the values, policies and procedures of the organisation and in the context of current legislation and regulations
* To participate in regular supervision with your line manager
* To actively participate in team and staff meetings and service reviews/ evaluations and to contribute to the development of policy and practice with your area of work and within Dublin Simon as a whole
* To report any area of concern to your line manager in a timely manner
* o show reasonable flexibility in relation to hours of attendance to meet the needs of the work. Work during unsocial hours may be required.
* Have a flexible approach to the work in response to organisational change, development and review of best practice.
* Participate in and engage with a performance management programme.
* Identify training needs with your line manager and participate in training opportunities appropriate to the role
* You are responsible for managing health & safety standards in your service in line with Dublin Simon Community Policies, Procedures & Guidelines
* To participate in the efficient flow of information within the organisation by sharing and seeking information as appropriate
* To undertake other duties as may be requested by the line manager from time to time
* To undertake your work in a manner that is friendly, flexible and informal whilst being professional

Person Specification

* At least one year of experience as a Porter in a similar setting
* Possess a high level of attention to detail with strong problem-solving skills
* Be a self-starter, hard-working, committed with willingness to learn and develop new ways of working/processes
* Good IT skills, in particular an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office
* Good communication skills both written and verbal
