We are seeking a skilled and technically proficient MEP Coordinator to play a key role in the delivery of high-performance building retrofit projects. This position supports several upcoming Deep Energy Retrofit (DER) initiatives in the Dublin area, with a focus on integrating and coordinating mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems—including HVAC, heat pumps, BMS, and ventilation—within existing buildings. The successful candidate will help ensure all installations meet the highest standards of energy efficiency, compliance, and quality. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to sustainable, innovative retrofit projects within a collaborative, values-driven environment.
Responsibilities Include:
* Lead the coordination of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems with architectural and structural elements.
* Ensure compliance of MEP plant and equipment with design requirements.
* Review technical drawings and ensure integration of upgraded mechanical plant within existing building fabric.
* Manage clash detection and resolve coordination issues using BIM/Revit/Navisworks tools.
* Oversee the upgrade or replacement of mechanical plant such as heat pumps, ventilation systems with heat recovery (MVHR), high-efficiency boilers, and building management systems (BMS).
* Ensure correct integration with thermal envelope improvements (e.g., insulation, airtightness) and renewable energy systems (e.g., solar thermal, PV).
* Review and approve mechanical system design proposals and technical submittals.
* Ensure mechanical systems meet or exceed Part L compliance and national retrofit standards (e.g., SEAI guidelines, NZEB requirements).
* Coordinate with energy modelers to validate system performance projections.
* Support implementation of metering and monitoring strategies for post-occupancy evaluation.
* Manage and coordinate MEP subcontractors and specialist mechanical installers.
* Facilitate communication between design consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders and client representatives.
* Attend and chair regular coordination and commissioning meetings.
* Ensure accurate and complete documentation: as-builts, O&M manuals, commissioning reports, warranties.
* Support training and handover to building operators for ongoing system efficiency.
Experience Required:
* Third‐level Degree (or related qualification/trade certification) in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or a related discipline.
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in MEP coordination, with at least 2 years on retrofit or refurbishment projects (ideally DER‐focused).
* Strong understanding of HVAC systems, plant room layouts, heat pump technology, and energy‐efficient mechanical systems.
* Familiarity with SEAI’s DER grant programmes, NZEB requirements, Part L, and other Building Regulations related to energy efficiency.
* Proven experience working in occupied buildings and managing phased handovers during retrofit works.
* Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM coordination software (Navisworks or equivalent).
* Exceptional communication and coordination skills—comfortable liaising with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and subcontractors.
* Ability to manage multiple project interfaces and priorities under tight schedules.
Desired But Not Essential:
* Knowledge of low‐carbon heating solutions and emerging renewable technologies (e.g., solar thermal integration).
* Certification as an Energy Manager (CEM) or equivalent energy performance qualification.
* Competence in energy modelling tools (IES, DesignBuilder, or similar).
