Job Overview
The Manager I Manufacturing Engineering is responsible for managing and implementing manufacturing processes within the Engineering Department, using knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards. The role proactively works to produce high‑quality goods efficiently, with cost‑effective methods and an aim to reduce production impact on the environment.
Day in the Life
Manage, direct, and coordinate manufacturing processes within the plant.
Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods.
Implement manufacturing processes by studying product requirements, researching, designing, modifying, and testing methods and equipment, and consulting with vendors.
Analyze and implement workforce utilization, space requirements, and workflow; design layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
Supervise planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling.
Assure product and process quality: implement testing methods, test finished product and process capabilities, establish standards, confirm manufacturing processes.
Estimate production times, staffing requirements, and related costs for management decisions.
Implement manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
Provide manufacturing decision‑making information: calculate production, labor, and material costs; review production schedules; estimate future requirements.
Apply statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.
Maintain good housekeeping, a safe working environment, and compliance with policies and procedures.
Establish goals, encourage growth and new ideas, and follow up as needed.
Coach and mentor while coordinating daily workload and facilitating projects.
Serve as liaison between departments and facilities to disseminate information and encourage communication.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or Industrial) – required.
6‑10 years experience in Manufacturing Engineering with proven leadership and management abilities – required.
Proficiency in Solid Edge CAD software – required.
Advanced knowledge of business administration, project management, lean, Six Sigma, or operational excellence – preferred.
Ability to read and interpret drawing requirements and specifications – required.
Excellent teamwork, interpersonal, and oral/written communication skills – required.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet critical deadlines – required.
