The main knowledge, skills and experience required of the Electrical Design Engineer are outlined as follows:
Level 7/8 Degree in Electrical Engineering
Minimum of 3 years’ experience, preferably in the Water & Wastewater sector
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Excellent planning, organisational, training, teamwork, problem resolution and presentation skills
Excellent literacy, numeric and IT skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Autodesk packages
Working knowledge of Trimble ProDesign (Amtech) or ETAP calculation software
Full Clean driving licence
The main duties and responsibilities of the Electrical Design Engineer are outlined as follows:
Ensure Health, Safety, Environmental, Sustainability & Quality standards, policies and procedures are developed into all designs and design outputs.
Work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines in Process, Mechanical, Control & Automation, Civil and Structural to achieve an optimum design solution.
Report to the Electrical Department Manager and compile and review site surveys, condition reports and M&I listings.
Perform electrical load balances, MIC load calculations and medium voltage design.
Design and size generator systems for backup applications.
General electrical services design, lighting and emergency lighting, earthing and lightning protection designs.
Cable sizing and cable schedules.
Review I/O of listings, control panel drawings, schematics and specialist reports on harmonics.
Design solar PV generation, battery storage and renewable generators for small applications.
Undertake site surveys and preliminary condition reports on existing infrastructure/assets.
Procurement of LV packages (Main Distribution Boards, MCCs, control panels, automation hardware/software, starters, electrical installation works, earthing and lightning protection).
Procurement of MV packages (distribution transformers, MV switchgear, specialist design services).
Procure and manage 3rd‑party design consultants as required.
Provide technical and commercial review of tender returns, ensuring alignment with required standards and value for money.
Recommend to procurement and provide a detailed handover to site delivery teams, including close‑out of design comments or construction queries.
Assist with the preparation and pricing of tender submissions for electrical works.
Promote and advocate key themes from Glanua Business Strategy: off‑site manufacturing, improved digitalised ways of working and sustainability.
Encourage use of innovative technology and ways of working within the team.
