Sustainability advisory and assurance are a key part of the client facing services across all BDO offices. This is an exciting opportunity to join the sustainability department in BDO Ireland.As a sustainability Subject Matter Expert (SME),you will lead and manage sustainability projects as part of a multi-disciplinary team for private or public sector clients. Client engagements are primarily in Ireland, with some in the UK, EU and internationally. Project examples include Developing Sustainability Strategies/Roadmaps; Climate Advisory (GHG inventory measurement, SBTi validation, Climate Transition Plans, CBAM), Responsible Sourcing (Green Procurement, supplier risk assessment, Modern Slavery, EU EDR)); Reporting (CSRD, EU Taxonomy, VSME, IFRS, GRI,TNFD), ESG Assurance for internal Audit teams. Key ResponsibilitiesLeverage your in-depth knowledge of the sustainability landscape to enable you to act in the capacity of 'trusted advisor' for senior client stakeholders. Develop and demonstrate sustainability thought leadership through preparation of insight publications, speaking at events, training and participation in expert working groups Undertake research into emerging sustainability issues, regulations and standards to provide expert informed guidance to clients and colleagues. Support the key account and client management programs by engaging with external parties to understand and shape their sustainability journey. Develop value propositions on sustainability topics as strategic advisory services for clients. Work with existing and prospective clients to identify an approach to ESG integration strategies that meets their goals. Lead and participate in sustainability proposals and pitches as part of sustainability business development. Develop strong relationships with internal stakeholders across the firm, working alongside others on sustainability matters as the team continues to grow. Lead and support internal facing sustainability governance and projects for BDO Ireland (SBTi, ISO14001, UNGC +). Support shaping the companies' ESG marketing, creation of education and promoting sustainability credentials through industry and client engagement. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
EssentialThird level or Postgraduate degree in a sustainability related subject – environmental science, environmental engineering, sustainable development in business. Minimum 8 years relevant experience working in sustainability ideally in industry, and or management consultancy capacity to senior level clients.
DesiredProfessional accreditations including Chartered environmentalist/engineer (CEnv), Lead GHG Verifier (GHG ISO14063-3; BREEAM/LEED/HPI); SBTi Academy certified, Lead Environmental Auditor/Assessor (ISO14001, ESOS), ESG Assurance (GRI, ISAE3000, ISAE5000). Good working knowledge of sustainability/ESG related EU and Irish policy, law and standards across multiple sectors and topic areas (climate, nature, circular, sustainable products, social, governance). Experience developing and delivering strategic, operational and reporting projects to business and public sector. Examples include Developing Sustainability Strategies/Roadmaps; Climate Advisory (GHG inventory measurement, SBTi validation, Climate Transition Plans, CBAM), Responsible Sourcing (GPP, supplier risk assessment); Reporting (CSRD, EU Taxonomy, VSME, IFRS, GRI), ESG Assurance for Audit teams. Experience in ESG data analytics and digital tools used support measurement, management and reporting related applications. A confident and professional manner, coupled with excellent written and verbal communication skills, with clients and colleagues alike, to ensure clarity in all situations and to effectively influence. Strong team player with the ability to manage several projects, meet deadlines and manage stakeholder expectations. Strong project management skills ideally certified to industry qualifications. e.g. PMP (Project Management Professional), PM BOK, agile focused Certified ScrumMaster (CSM). Strong IT skills (Microsoft applications - PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Power-BI) and ESG digital applications an advantage. Benefits
