We are seeking a detail‑oriented Trade & Compliance Customs Specialist to manage end‑to‑end customs compliance across our import/export operations. You will own customs documentation, product classification, and continuous monitoring of trade rules, enabling frictionless cross‑border movements and minimizing risk.
Key Responsibilities
Customs Documentation & Records
Prepare, review, and maintain accurate import/export documentation (commercial invoices, packing lists, COO, licenses, permits).
Ensure complete, audit‑ready records retention in accordance with regulatory requirements and company policy.
Tariff Classification & Origin
Classify goods using applicable tariff schedules (e.g., HS/HTS) and determine country of origin per relevant rules.
Maintain product classification database and coordinate with Engineering/Procurement for accurate technical specs.
Valuation & Duty Management
Validate valuation methodology, Incoterms, and duty/tax applicability; support duty drawback and preferential trade programs (as applicable).
Regulatory Monitoring & Governance
Track changes to trade regulations, sanctions, embargoes, licensing requirements, and free trade agreements; translate updates into actionable internal guidance.
Support policy development, SOPs, and internal controls to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
Broker & Stakeholder Coordination
Liaise with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and government authorities to resolve queries, holds, and compliance issues.
Partner with Supply Chain, Quality, Finance, Legal, and Commercial teams to enable compliant and timely shipments.
Risk Management & Audits
Conduct periodic compliance checks, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
Support internal/external audits and respond to regulatory inquiries.
Training & Continuous Improvement
Deliver training on customs requirements to internal teams; champion process improvements and digitalization initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience Required
Demonstrated experience with HS/HTS classification, origin determination, and customs documentation.
Working knowledge of key trade regulations and regimes (e.g., EU customs rules, UK/Ireland requirements, sanctions/export controls).
Proficiency with ERP/TMS and broker portals; strong Excel/analytical skills.
Excellent attention to detail, problem‑solving, and stakeholder communication.
3+ years in customs, trade compliance, or international logistics (manufacturer or broker/forwarder environment).
Regulatory acumen; ability to interpret and operationalize rule changes.
Data accuracy and documentation excellence.
