To provide professional, evidence-based nursing care to service users experiencing acute mental health crises in a safe, respectful, recovery-oriented environment.
The nurse will collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality, person-centred care.
Key Responsibilities
1.
Clinical Care
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised care plans for psychiatric inpatients.
Administer medications and monitor therapeutic effects, including side effect management.
Conduct mental state examinations and risk assessments.
Provide one-to-one support and therapeutic engagement with service users.
Observe patients' behaviours for changes in condition, risk to self/others, or signs of relapse.
Maintain accurate clinical notes and care documentation per HSE guidelines.

Teamwork & Multidisciplinary Collaboration
Work as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT), including psychiatrists, social workers, psychologists, and occupational therapists.
Participate in daily handovers, MDT case reviews, and family meetings.
Support and mentor student nurses, healthcare assistants, and new staff.
3.
Health & Safety
Contribute to a safe, clean environment by following infection prevention and control (IPC) standards.
Follow best practices in restraint minimisation and de-escalation.
Respond to medical and psychiatric emergencies as per protocol (e.g., CPR, seclusion policy).
4.
Continuing Professional Development
Attend mandatory and CPD training sessions (e.g., PMAV, manual handling, infection control).
Keep up to date with evidence-based practice in mental health nursing.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
Demonstrated knowledge of acute psychiatric disorders, treatment modalities, and crisis intervention techniques.
Strong clinical and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, high-pressure, multidisciplinary environment.
Desirable Skills/Attributes
Experience working in an acute psychiatric or inpatient setting.
CPI/MAPA or PMAV training (Prevention & Management of Aggression and Violence).
Familiarity with electronic health records (e.g., iPMS).
Empathy, resilience, and commitment to service user recovery.
