Quality Control and Compliance Officer
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Quality Control and Compliance Officer to join our team in the Bunzl team in Dublin.
The Quality Control and Compliance Officer supports Bunzl Ireland's commitment to operational excellence and regulatory compliance across its product portfolio. This role ensures that quality standards are upheld at intake, warehouse, and distribution stages. The Officer is responsible for intake inspections, supplier document validation, complaint handling, product sampling, and assisting in compliance assurance across categories including food contact packaging, PPE, chemicals, and sustainable materials. This role plays a pivotal part in Bunzl's Centre of Excellence and supports continuous improvement initiatives.
Key respponsibilities
1. Back Door Intake Quality Checks
• Perform daily inspections of incoming goods to ensure compliance with product specifications and Bunzl quality standards.
• Identify and escalate non-conformances or damaged goods to the relevant departments (e.g., procurement, warehouse).
• Complete intake inspection records and communicate issues in real time.
1. Warehouse Stock Quality Checks
• Conduct routine audits of warehouse stock for signs of damage, contamination, packaging deterioration, or mislabelling.
• Document findings and initiate corrective actions when needed in coordination with the warehouse supervisor.
1. Complaint Handling & Tracking
• Receive and document customer complaints, including supporting evidence (photos, batch codes, etc.).
• Distribute complaints to the relevant internal departments (procurement, logistics, technical, etc.) for investigation and resolution.
• Track all complaints using the internal complaints register.
• Collate investigation outcomes and prepare written responses to customers in collaboration with the Compliance Manager.
1. Product Sampling & Quality Evaluation
• Conduct sampling and quality assessments of approximately 20 products per month in Bunzl's Centre of Excellence.
• Carry out visual, physical, and where appropriate, functional assessments on sampled products.
• Maintain sample logs and generate concise monthly reports with trends, quality issues, and improvement suggestions.
1. Supplier Admin Checks & Onboarding Support
• Review and validate documentation for new suppliers including specifications, certifications (e.g., FSC, food contact, REACH/CLP, PPE), declarations of compliance, and EUDR
data in conjunction with Compliance Manager.
• Track receipt of supplier onboarding documents and maintain accurate supplier compliance records in coordination with the procurement team.
• Support escalation or follow-up where documentation is incomplete or inconsistent.
1. Regulatory & Standards Support
• Support internal audit preparation for external standards (e.g., BRCGS Storage and Ditribution).
• Contribute to ensuring traceability and product information is maintained and accessible.
• Stay informed of EU and Irish regulatory changes impacting packaging and product safety.
Qualifications and experience
• Previous experience in quality control, warehouse, or compliance roles, ideally in distribution, packaging, or FMCG.
• Understanding of quality assurance principles and complaint investigation processes.
• Knowledge of packaging compliance, food contact regulations, or sustainability certifications (e.g., FSC, EUDR) is an advantage.
• Implementation and knowledge of BRCGS advantageous.
Skills and experience
Essential:
• 2+ years in a quality, warehouse, or regulatory compliance role.
• Understanding of quality assurance processes and complaint investigation.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), SharePoint, or similar platforms.
• Good working knowledge of inspection and testing techniques.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable:
• Knowledge of BRCGS standards, FSC, food contact materials, and EUDR regulations.
• Experience with PPE or chemical compliance.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 or other quality management systems.
