Compounding Engineer
Key Responsibilities:
Formulation & Development
* Develop and refine material formulations to meet mechanical, chemical, thermal, or regulatory specifications.
* Select raw materials and additives based on performance needs and cost targets.
* Conduct lab-scale and pilot-scale compounding trials.
Process Engineering
* Optimize compounding processes such as extrusion, mixing, blending, or milling.
* Troubleshoot production issues related to material quality, machine performance, or process consistency.
* Establish and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for production lines.
Quality & Testing
* Oversee testing protocols including rheology, tensile strength, thermal analysis, colour matching, etc.
* Implement continuous improvement initiatives to reduce variability and enhance product performance.
* Document and analyse test results; adjust formulations or parameters accordingly.
Production Support
* Work closely with manufacturing teams to ensure smooth scale-up from lab to production.
* Train operators and technicians on compounding processes and best practices.
* Monitor batch records and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
Regulatory & Compliance
* Ensure formulations meet relevant regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, REACH, RoHS, USP).
* Maintain accurate documentation for audits and customer requirements.
Cross-functional Collaboration
* Partner with R&D, quality, procurement, and sales to support product development or customer inquiries.
* Participate in customer meetings to provide technical insights and troubleshoot material issues.
Qualifications
Education:
* Bachelor's or master's in chemical engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
Experience:
* 5+ years in compounding, materials development, polymer processing, or manufacturing engineering
Skills:
* Strong understanding of polymer chemistry, rheology, or materials science.
* Hands-on experience with twin-screw extruders, internal mixers, or related equipment.
* Ability to interpret analytical data (DSC, TGA, FTIR, MFI, etc.).
* Problem-solving and continuous-improvement mindset (Lean, Six Sigma helpful).
* Excellent communication and documentation skills.
