Person in Charge (PIC)
Job Overview
The Person in Charge (PIC) is responsible for directing and coordinating the management of the nursing home, ensuring the delivery of high‑quality residential care in line with national and international best practices and within available resources.
The PIC leads and coordinates staff to meet the ethos of the organisation and statutory regulations, while fostering respectful and person‑centred relationships with residents. The PIC reports to the Nursing Home Coordinator or a designated individual.
Key Responsibilities

Fulfil the duties and obligations of the Person in Charge in accordance with the Health Act 2007, associated regulations, and HIQA National Quality Standards.
Oversee the organisation, administration, and operation of all aspects of the nursing home in collaboration with the Registered Provider.
Provide leadership, guidance, and clinical oversight to all staff to maintain high standards and promote a positive team environment.
Promote leadership approaches that support staff morale and a positive nursing home culture.
Maintain a caring, professional environment that meets the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of residents.
Safeguard residents by implementing measures to prevent abuse or neglect and ensuring concerns are reported appropriately.
Foster respectful relationships with residents based on dignity, equality, and person‑centred care principles.
Support and implement person‑centred care practices across the service.
Be available for night and weekend duties where required.

Education & Qualifications

Third Level Degree in Nursing.
Registered with The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) with an active PIN.
Up‑to‑date certification in:

Infection Control
Manual Handling & Resident Moving and Handling
Medication Management
CPR
Dementia Care
Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults (Training can be provided if required.)


Post‑registration qualification in Healthcare Management (or equivalent) is essential, or willingness to undertake the qualification.
Post‑registration qualification in Gerontology or Dementia Care is desirable.

Skills & Experience

Minimum 6 years’ post‑registration nursing experience.
Minimum 3 years’ experience in a management role.
Minimum 3 years’ experience in eldercare nursing within the past 6 years.
Demonstrated clinical competence and commitment to high‑quality care for older people.
Full Irish driver’s licence and access to own transport required.
