UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic are currently recruiting for a Staff Nurse to join our Recovery department in our Theatre Department. This is a permanent fulltime role for the successful candidate. Location: Sports Surgery Clinic. Job type: Permanent.
Responsibilities
The Recovery Nurse is responsible for providing, maintaining and developing patient-centred care to a high standard. This is achieved through effective organisation of nursing services in the Theatre and the overall administration of the unit.
Be accountable to the CNM 1, Recovery/Theatre Manager and the Director of Nursing in all matters relating to the job.
Maintain awareness of the primacy of the patient in relation to all clinic activities and create a culture of accountability, openness to change, respect for the individual and teamwork.
Promote healthy working relationships and demonstrate behaviour consistent with the clinic values.
Be accountable for the nursing service provided to patients in pre-operative and post-operative areas, including ensuring the best possible standard of nursing care at all times.
Communicate with relatives and visitors of patients as required.
Set and monitor standards; participate in the clinic\'s Accreditation programme and Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives; implement and maintain procedures in theatre.
Keep the Director of Nursing apprised of all issues as required.
Liaise with the Director of Nursing to ensure efficient and effective use of patient care consumables and communicate changes to staff.
Administrative responsibilities include liaising with the Director of Nursing, Clinical Nurse Managers, Staff Nurses and support staff to develop and maintain a high quality service.
Collaborate with the Director of Nursing in planning future service developments for the department.
Coordinate with Clinical Nurse Managers at floor level to ensure continuity of nursing care and the safe transfer of patients.
Promote an environment conducive to learning and development of best practice to enhance staff retention and good industrial relations.
Ensure health and safety, fire and other statutory regulations are adhered to; drive change management to meet departmental needs.
Coordinate with wards and other departments to ensure continuity of patient care and safe transfer of patients to Day Ward and In-Patient Ward; manage transfers at night as required.
Maintain safe custody of controlled drugs according to clinic policy.
Coordinate and maintain equipment and monitor use of resources to prevent unnecessary expenditure.
Ensure incidents and near misses involving patients and staff are documented and reported in accordance with clinic policies.
Contribute to audits for quality care, nursing standards and manpower planning.
All staff must attend mandatory in-service training and monitor Infection Control policies in liaison with the Infection Control Nurse.
Observe and uphold daily cleaning standards in the department and report any inadequacies.
Qualifications & Experience
Be a Registered General Nurse and registered with An Bord Altranais on the live register.
Have a minimum of 4 years post-registration experience, with at least 3 years in theatre/recovery.
Previous orthopaedic experience is desirable but not necessary.
Opportunity to train in specialist disciplines such as Orthopaedics.
Demonstrate experience of managing a team of nurses, ideally in an orthopaedic facility.
Be computer literate and have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work on own initiative, prioritise, manage multiple issues and demonstrate attention to detail; identify difficulties and formulate solutions.
Be free from any defect or disease which would render them unsuitable to hold office and be in good health to render regular service; be of good character.
Garda Vetting is required for this position.
