Senior R D Engineer Electrical – Stryker
Location: Cork, Hybrid working. Site: R&D Instruments Innovation Centre.
Responsibilities (Technical)

Design and develop electrical components and sub‑systems for medical devices.
Apply advanced circuit and electrical system test methods.
Conduct or design prototyping and bench testing.
Problem‑solve, identify potential solutions, and evaluate against component and sub‑system requirements.
Conduct research and studies to support product design.
Translate design inputs to engineering specifications and produce component and sub‑system level designs.

Business and Medical Device Compliance

Demonstrate advanced understanding of customer needs and design inputs.
Show proficiency with product intended use and clinical procedures.
Apply industry standards, design requirements, and test strategies for regulatory compliance.
Independently create or refine engineering documentation such as the Design History file.
Follow R&D procedures including design controls and risk management per the Quality Management System.

General

Collaborate with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing, and Project Management.
Process and assimilate procedures, policies, systems, and technology quickly.
Work on complex problems applying advanced experience and learning.
Demonstrate ownership, prioritize work with minimal supervision, and build relationships.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline & 2+ years of work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of electrical design process, components, and manufacturing methods.
Proficiency with design and concept generation CAD, CAE, or simulation tools.
Ability to interpret, analyze, and test electrical designs.
Experience with statistical analysis tools.
Understanding of system life cycle and impact of design choices.

Role: Lead the development, submission, and coordination of high‑quality RD&I grant applications to advance Stryker’s innovation pipeline.
Responsibilities

Lead end‑to‑end RD&I grant development: concept framing, narrative, technical content, budgeting, and submission.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Life Sciences, Engineering, Health Sciences, Business).
Minimum 6+ years of professional grant writing experience, with a proven record of successful award.
Experience preparing grant applications for scientific, engineering, medical device, or healthcare innovation programs.
Strong understanding of national and EU funding landscapes.
Master’s or Ph.D. in a scientific, technical, or health discipline is preferred.
Experience in regulated industry (medical device, pharmaceutical, biotech) with familiarity in design control, risk management, and quality systems.
Experience supporting large interdisciplinary research or innovation initiatives.
