Role Summary The Senior Investment Risk Manager plays a key role within the Investment Management & Finance Risk (IMFR) function, providing independent, data‑driven oversight of fund risk across Vanguard's Irish‑domiciled UCITS funds.
Operating within the Dublin‑based IMFR team, the role helps ensure that investment activities remain aligned with fund objectives, regulatory expectations, and Vanguard's global risk framework.
This role directly supports the safeguarding of investor outcomes by ensuring Vanguard's Irish funds operate within a transparent, well‑controlled fund‑risk environment.
It strengthens IMFR's mission to enable, protect, and steward the investment process through rigorous oversight, challenge, and thought leadership.
In this role you will Monitor and Report Fund Risks: Conduct ongoing risk monitoring and reporting for Vanguard's Irish domiciled funds, covering material risks such as portfolio, liquidity, counterparty, operational, and sustainability risks Support Regulatory Oversight: Assist the Designated Person (PCF 39 C) in fulfilling Fund Risk Management obligations, ensuring compliance with UCITS requirements and adherence to internal risk limits and guardrails Enhance Risk Management Framework: Develop, implement, and maintain a robust infrastructure to measure, monitor, and report risk exposures across cash, equity, fixed income, and multi-asset investments Advance Risk-Return Analysis: Improve methodologies for risk-return assessment, including performance attribution, stress testing, and incident analysis, to optimize fund risk/return profiles Enable Risk-Aware Decision Making: Gather and analyze data from multiple sources to produce insightful reports and recommendations that inform portfolio management decisions.
Deliver clear, actionable analysis to senior leaders, portfolio managers, and traders Partner Across Functions and Regions: Demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams to support cohesive, enterprise‑wide risk management Maintain Market and Investment Expertise: Stay informed on financial markets, quantitative drivers, and investment themes to provide a well-informed perspective in risk management processes.
Develop deep knowledge of Vanguard's investment management functions and adapt risk analysis to evolving business needs Contribute to Strategic Initiatives: Participate in special projects and perform additional duties as required What it takes Strong technical grounding in fund risk analytics, quantitative methods, and portfolio behaviour Deep understanding of UCITS regulations, including their application to Irish‑domiciled UCITS funds and UCITS ETFs, as well as fund risk frameworks and ESG‑related fund‑risk considerations Experience interpreting market drivers, macro events, and cross‑asset trends within a risk‑management context Proven ability to deliver high‑quality analysis, articulate risk insights, and influence investment stakeholders Proven experience operating in senior investment‑risk positions or comparable roles within the financial‑services industry Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, mathematics, engineering, or another quantitative or related discipline Professional qualifications such as IMC, CFA, FRM (or progress towards these) are highly beneficial Special Factors Vanguard is not offering sponsorship for this position This is a hybrid position and would require you to work in the office 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday) This role encompasses activities that fall within the remit of Central Bank of Ireland ('CBI') regulation.
The successful candidate will therefore be subject to Irish regulatory requirements in relation to conduct rules, regulatory references and the assessment of fitness and propriety, knowledge, experience and competence.
Where appropriate, the role may also be subject to approval by the CBI.
