Job Summary
QSC is seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer/Data Architect to design, build, and maintain our data infrastructure while leading strategic architectural initiatives. The individual will shape and execute QSC’s data architecture vision, ensuring scalability, security, and efficiency. Responsibilities include architecting robust data solutions, executing hands‑on engineering tasks, optimizing pipelines, and improving data accessibility to support a data‑driven enterprise.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
* Design and implement scalable data architectures that meet the needs of QSC’s growing data landscape, ensuring flexibility, performance, and security.
* Lead efforts to modernize the company’s data architecture, including cloud migration, data lake strategies, and integration of new technologies.
* Establish and maintain data governance standards and best practices for architecture, modeling, and management.
* Architect data solutions that leverage microservices to provide modular, scalable, and reusable components across the enterprise.
* Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders to align data architecture with business objectives and ensure seamless integration.
* Build, optimize, and manage ETL/ELT processes for efficient data flow between systems, applications, and warehouses.
* Develop and maintain robust data pipelines for structured and unstructured sources, ensuring efficient processing and user access.
* Build and deploy APIs for seamless integration across platforms, ensuring security, performance, and scalability.
* Leverage middleware to integrate legacy systems with modern data platforms for smooth data flow between services.
* Collaborate with software engineering teams to implement data solutions that meet performance and scalability requirements.
* Design, develop, and implement API‑driven data solutions that enable secure, scalable, and flexible access.
* Build and manage microservices architecture to support real‑time data processing and enhance delivery.
* Develop middleware solutions to bridge data services and business applications for consistent integration.
* Ensure secure and efficient communication between services using APIs and messaging protocols such as REST, gRPC, or GraphQL.
* Establish best practices for API design, versioning, monitoring, and security.
* Establish data quality metrics and enforce compliance with governance policies.
* Design data systems that comply with regulatory standards to ensure security.
* Maintain high data quality at ingestion and throughout pipelines.
* Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve infrastructure performance and reliability.
* Advocate for data stewardship and lifecycle management best practices.
* Work closely with analysts, scientists, and IT teams to translate data needs into technical requirements.
* Present complex architecture solutions to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
* Serve as a thought leader in data engineering and architecture, fostering a culture of data‑driven decision making.
Skills And Minimum Experience Required
Minimum: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
Preferred: Master's Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or equivalent technical discipline.
Experience
* 8+ years of hands‑on experience in data engineering, data architecture, or related fields.
* Proven experience designing and managing large‑scale architectures in Azure cloud environments.
* Deep experience building and optimizing data pipelines, ETL processes, and integration workflows.
* Experience designing and deploying microservices architecture and API‑driven solutions.
* Strong experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, data warehousing, and data lakes.
* Track record of leading architecture initiatives in mid‑to‑large scale enterprises.
* Experience with data governance and regulatory compliance frameworks.
Knowledge And Skills
* Expertise in SQL, NoSQL, data modeling (Star Schema, Snowflake), and distributed systems (Hadoop, Spark).
* Strong proficiency in Azure cloud services (Azure, MS Fabric, Azure Synapse, Databricks).
* Expertise in ETL/ELT frameworks and tools.
* Strong coding skills in Python or Scala for building and optimizing pipelines.
* Experience building and securing RESTful APIs and integrating third‑party services.
* Familiarity with microservices architecture and scalability, resiliency, and modularity.
* Experience with middleware and legacy integration into modern architectures.
* Knowledge of API security best practices (OAuth, JWT) and monitoring solutions.
* Excellent problem‑solving and design skills for scalable data solutions.
* Strong communication skills for explaining technical solutions to stakeholders.
* Experience in data quality, security, and disaster recovery strategies.
