The School of Business at Maynooth University, in partnership with the Value Institute and Lero – The Irish Software Research Centre (SFI), is offering a fully funded PhD scholarship to tackle one of Ireland’s most pressing challenges: recruiting and retaining care workers.
We’re looking for a talented and motivated researcher to join us in developing an advanced analytics platform that uses econometrics, predictive modelling, and HR analytics to:

This impactful research sits at the intersection of econometrics, workforce analytics, and healthcare, with opportunities to apply NLP techniques (e.g., on CVs or screening text) and build fair, transparent, and policy‑relevant tools.
What the scholarship offers
* €25,000 per annum tax‑free maintenance grant
* Full tuition fee coverage
* 4‑year funding (subject to annual progress)
Requirements
* A first‑class or high 2:1 undergraduate degree, or a Master’s, in Economics, Health Economics, Labour Economics, Business/HRM, Data Analytics, Psychology, Engineering, Health Informatics, or a related field
* Strong skills in econometrics (e.g., panel data, limited dependent variable models, causal identification)
* The ability to connect quantitative findings to real‑world theories of motivation, turnover, and organisational behaviour
* Excellent communication skills to work with academic supervisors and industry partners

* Working with large or complex datasets
