Job Overview
The role of Workshop / Fabrication Engineer is to work as part of a team to ensure the effective completion of the fabrication and assembly workscope in accordance with the project specifications and schedule requirements. The position involves processing and coordinating multiple fabrication and assembly streams of work in a multipurpose facility, including materials management, High Purity pipework fabrication and skid assembly as required by project scope. The work must be delivered safely, efficiently, on time and to the required quality standards, ensuring timely delivery to the site.
Typical tasks
Ensure works are carried out safely by generating RAMS/Method Statements/SOPs.
Assist with craft management, toolbox talks, inductions and training coordination.
Resolve all enquiries and clarifications (RFIs) in a timely manner.
Attend subcontractors and internal meetings as required.
Order consumable supplies as necessary.
Confirm with stores that materials are received and complete goods inwards on PO system.
Inform suppliers and sites of shortages.
Complete incoming inspection of materials, check certification and record heat numbers as necessary.
Prepare cut lists for batches of isometrics and issue to workshop floor for cutting.
Ensure welding procedures are current and welder qualifications are acceptable.
Ensure fabrication traceability for materials and welding is as per client specification.
Stamp isometrics and drawings as 'Production' and issue to workshop floor.
Collect welder books daily and record welding completed on database daily.
Check progress against required targets and priority lists.
Identify spools requiring NDT and mark accordingly.
Inspect fabrications for orientation and compliance with drawings; check weld contours and highlight issues that are deemed out of spec with welding inspector.
Ensure welding, inspection and NDT records are completed as necessary.
Prepare dispatch documents with list of items for shipping.
Ensure any required accompanying documentation is completed prior to shipment.
Give regular updates on fabrication progress to site staff.
Hold weekly coordination meeting of all activities with workshop staff and record minutes.
Discuss priorities and delivery requirements.
Ensure inspection of works including all subcontractor work scope.
Perform walk‑down of fabricated and assembled items on completion and final acceptance of the works.
Ensure correct tagging and labelling is completed.
Record wrapping and shipping conditions prior to delivery.
Adhere to project quality plans and internal processes and standards.
Person Specification
Education, Training & Experience
Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Proficient in Microsoft applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Proficient in the use of AutoCAD, Autodesk, NavisWorks and Isogen or equivalent packages.
Minimum 5 years relevant work experience in a workshop environment is preferred.
Experience in the process industry with piping and stainless steel fabrication is preferable.
