An independent renewable energy project developer based in Sligo, Ireland.Our team originates, plans, and delivers utility-scale wind, solar, and storage projects across Ireland and the UK, with in-house expertise in land negotiation, grid, planning, and project execution. We have a firm belief in the positive environmental and social benefits of the renewable energy transition.Currently seeking a motivated and experienced Renewable Energy Grid Connection Lead to join our dynamic team.The Role:We are seeking an experienced Renewable Energy Grid Connection Lead to support the development and delivery of Wind, Solar, Battery Energy Storage (BESS) and System Services projects across Ireland and the UK.This is a key technical and commercial role, responsible for all grid connection and power systems aspects of projects from early-stage feasibility and site selection, through planning, construction, commissioning, and into operation.You will act as the primary interface with Transmission and Distribution Network Operators, leading grid connection strategy, applications, and technical design, while working closely with internal development, engineering, and construction teams.Key ResponsibilitiesAct as the technical lead for grid connection and power systems matters across the project lifecycle, from feasibility through to operations.Lead site selection and feasibility assessments, with a strong focus on grid availability, constraints, and connection strategy.Prepare, submit, and manage grid connection applications with relevant TSOs and DSOs (including EirGrid and ESB Networks, and UK network operators where applicable).Manage and coordinate HV/MV substation and grid connection designs, working with internal teams, consultants, and contractors.Provide expert electrical input into:Layout drawings and schematicsSingle line diagramsProtection and control philosophiesPower system studies and calculation reportsTechnical specifications and equipment data sheetsSurvey and assess cable and overhead line routes, considering technical, environmental, land, and regulatory constraints.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of network constraints, reinforcement plans, and regulatory changes, ensuring internal databases reflect the latest network information.Build and maintain strong working relationships with Network Operators, external consultants, regulators, and internal stakeholders.Proactively identify and resolve technical and commercial risks related to grid connection.Support wider project development activities, including planning, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operational phases.Conduct site visits and on-site monitoring where required.RequirementsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline (Level 8 minimum).Minimum 5 years' experience in the electrical power industry, ideally within grid connections, renewables, utilities, or power systems consulting.Strong knowledge of the Irish electricity transmission and distribution networks and grid connection processes, including key stakeholders (EirGrid, ESB Networks, CRU).A basic understanding of UK grid connection requirements is desirable.Solid understanding of power systems, HV/MV design, renewable energy technologies, and relevant standards and codes (IEC, I.S. 10101, WIMES).Experience using tools such as AutoCAD, GIS, ETAP, and/or DIgSILENT PowerFactory.Strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to lead technical discussions internally and externally.Full Irish driving licence and access to your own vehicle in Ireland.
