Applications are now open for the role of Games Development Coordinator in West Kerry. As this position is based in the Kerry Gaeltacht area, applicants must be fluent in Irish.
Role Summary
The role holder will deliver GAA games development policies and programs as outlined in the county coaching and games development plan, working with local clubs and schools (primary and post-primary) within a specific geographic area. The focus will also be on establishing sustainable clubs by building capacity within the volunteer structure.
Principal Accountabilities (including but not limited to):
Operations
* Oversee the implementation of policies, strategies, and programs related to coaching and games development within the region.
* Manage relations with clubs and schools to support growth across Gaelic Games, working with Camogie, LGFA, Handball, and Rounders.
People Management
* Coordinate and supervise county personnel, including supporting the development of work programs with the County Head of Games.
* Liaise with Coach Developers to deliver coach and referee development programs.
* Manage recruitment, training, and deployment of camp and club-school link coaches within the region.
Leadership
* Assist in developing and implementing the County Games Development Strategy and multi-annual plans.
* Ensure effective use of GAA coaching and development IT systems.
* Deliver programs aligned with national policies and develop strategies to increase engagement and growth.
Club Support
* Coordinate club support programs to foster self-sufficiency and capacity building (e.g., Club Compass).
* Support and train Club Coaching Officers, ensuring compliance with vetting and safeguarding requirements.
* Assist clubs with player pathways and participation programs, including camps, Go Games, Super Games, and diversity initiatives.
* Lead volunteer, coach, and referee education and development initiatives.
Schools Support
* Coordinate delivery of the GAA 5-Star Programme in primary schools.
* Oversee participation and retention programs in schools, including intra- and inter-school games and diversity initiatives.
* Support Transition Year and GAA Future Leaders programs.
* Provide ongoing training and support to Club-School Link Coaches.
Talent Academy/Player Development
* Support the identification of players and coaches for the County Talent Academy.
* Organize regional games to support talent development.
* Coordinate with clubs and schools to deliver player development supports aligned with the talent program.
Stakeholder Management
* Collaborate with County-level Coaching and Games Development Committees.
* Engage with stakeholders at all levels, including national, provincial, clubs, schools, and third-level institutions, to promote participation and retention.
Other
* This role requires working evenings and weekends as needed and undertaking other duties as assigned.
* May be responsible for leading specific programs within the county.
Essential Criteria
* 3-5 years experience in GAA or similar organization (voluntary or professional).
* Minimum GAACoaching Qualification (Level 1).
* Third-level qualification (Level 7 NFQ).
* Knowledge of GAA coaching schemes and initiatives.
* Strong administrative, IT, and organizational skills.
* Excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership, and negotiation skills.
* Ability to manage multiple projects and work under pressure.
* Fluent Irish (verbal and written).
Desirable Criteria
* Experience managing staff.
* Additional coaching or sports science qualifications.
Other Requirements
* Own car with full driving license.
* Completed GAA Child Protection/Safeguarding training.
* Willingness to work evenings and weekends.
