Head Medical is seeking a dedicated and experienced Consultant in Anaesthesiology to join a model 2 univrtisty hospital based in the province of Connacht with adynamic and growing medical team. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a hospital, providing high-quality patient care while contributing to the development of innovative medical practices in a supportive and progressive environment.This role is not asubstantive post but will be a relatively short contract of 6 months with a potential of going permanent.
The post will be split between2 University Hospitals, 40 minutes drive between each other.

* Basic Salary scale between €231,215- €277,736in accordance with the HSE 2023 Consultant contract
* Additional remuneration for on-call duties and overtime as applicable depending on rota (up to€19,000)

Key Responsibilities
* Clinical Responsibilities
* Provide anaesthetic services for:
o Day-case surgery (orthopaedic, general surgery, endoscopy, ophthalmology)
o Chronic pain procedures
o Sedation for diagnostic procedures (e.g. endoscopy, radiology)
* Conduct pre-operative assessment clinics and oversee perioperative care
* Participate in regional acute care and on-call rotas, particularly covering Galway University Hospital as needed
* Provide advice and support to clinical colleagues in relation to anaesthetic and perioperative care
Teaching & Research
* Supervise and train NCHDs, interns, and medical students rotating through RUH
* Engage in continuing professional development (CPD
Administrative & Quality Roles
* Maintain detailed clinical records in line with hospital and HSE policy
* Participate in service planning and audit, risk management, and quality improvement initiatives
* Contribute to policy development in anaesthesia, theatre efficiency, and patient safety
Requirements to Apply
* Full registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Irish Medical Council (IMC) – Specialist Division in Anaesthesiologymust be active and inplace to secure an interview
* Fellowship of the College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland (FCAI) or equivalent (e.g. FRCA)
* Significant experience in perioperative anaesthetic care and day-case anaesthesia
