To represent the views and interests of MII members and carry out the necessary tasks in consultation with the Director of MII to ensure the key objectives of MII are met. To manage relationships with members and other key stakeholders and identify opportunities for growth and development that can bring added value to the Irish meat sector. To play a lead role on assigned initiatives and projects.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy delivery
* Provide input into the development and implementation of the unit plan to ensure delivery of key objectives
* Be a key contributor in the delivery of a work programme in accordance with the strategic vision and action plan of the MII Board and its working groups; this includes taking lead responsibility on assigned areas and proactively supporting the Director of MII in the overall strategy implementation
* Work collaboratively in delivering general key account management
* Work collaboratively across the organisation on initiatives and projects as appropriate
Representation and Policy Development
* Support the Director of MII in representing the industry, and effectively advocating member interests to stakeholders including government departments, regulators and agencies
* Work closely with the Director of MII to identify and take actions to ensure that MII is positioned to support the operational, legislative and technical requirements of its members.
* Lobbying and representation activities on behalf of member companies on cross-cutting issues facing the meat processing sector, as well as species-specific issues.
* Deal with members enquiries and provide ongoing information to members on relevant issues
Member relations; communications and committee work
* Prepare agendas, attend and contribute to CEO level Board meetings. including interface with the senior management of all the meat processing companies
* Provide high level secretariat and administrative services to the MII Board, MII Committees and working groups.
* Support the implementation of a comprehensive work programme for MII in particular focussing on:
* Development of contacts and networking with relevant regulators and policymakers in all relevant Government departments and state agencies
* Lobbying and representation activities at domestic, EU and International level as agreed with the Director of MII
* Managing media relations in consultation with the Director of MII
* Participation in European and International organisations and committees including UECBV, CLITRAVI and International Meat Secretariat.
* Reviewing draft legislation; consultation/policy papers etc., communicating as necessary with member companies and providing appropriate feedback; producing regular publications and major reports where appropriate.
* Monitor developments in the external environment relevant to the sector including regulatory, social, and competitive and make recommendations for action in consultation with the Director of MII.
* Identify opportunities to raise the profile and reputation of the meat sector and make recommendations accordingly
* Building and maintaining relationships with senior executives in member companies
* Assist in preparation of agendas, minutes and paperwork and delivery of agreed work programmes
* Provide comprehensive regulatory and operational support to key projects highly relevant to the meat sector.

* Leading various initiatives when required
* Assist in preparation of key account management meetings and participate as appropriate
* Be an active member of the team
* Collaborate across the organisation as needed
Carry out other duties as identified and agreed with the Director of MII that are in keeping with the overall purpose of the position.
ABOUT YOU
Qualifications
* Primary degree – agriculture, science, business or equivalent
* Relevant post graduate qualifications an advantage
Knowledge
* Business, social and competitive issues facing the Agri-Food / Meat sector in Ireland, EU and globally
* The Irish, EU and international regulatory and sustainability environment and its implications for the sector
* Insight into the operational issues facing MII members at all points in the supply chain
* Role of National & EU government and agencies in policy making and regulation
Experience
* Ideally at least 5 years relevant post-graduate experience (industry, regulatory or public affairs)
* Working in a team environment and taking the lead on projects/initiatives
* Experience of working with committees/working groups and operating at a high level
* Communications experience including public speaking; presentations; chairing meetings etc.
