JOB TITLE: Mechanical Plant Fitter
SALARY: €788.67 - €908.33 per week
REPORTS TO: Mechanical Foreman and Engineer
LOCATION: Tullamore Depot, Co Offaly
SUMMARY OF ROLE
The Fitter is responsible for all duties associated with the post including fitting / welding duties at Tullamore Depot, and work sites throughout the Eastern Region as required.
KEY FUNCTIONS
* Maintenance and repair of mobile & fixed plant and equipment as requested by Mechanical Line
* Management.Follow instructions as directed by Mechanical Line Management.
* Assist with the safe operation of the work site.To facilitate procurement of supplies and parts in accordance with Waterways Ireland procurement policy.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Maintenance and fitting duties on a wide range of Plant items (such as hydraulic excavators, weed and work boats, tractors, hedge and grass cutting equipment) associated with the normal day to day works carried out by Waterways Ireland.
* Cutting and welding as requested by Mechanical Line Management.
* Keeping accurate records e.g. maintain log book, record of works carried out, record sheets for fleet management etc.
* Liaising and working with outside contract fitting staff and electrical/mechanical contractors employed by Waterways Ireland.
* Complying with delegated responsibilities in the areas of Safety, Health and Welfare and have a proactive approach towards the reduction/elimination of accidents and dangerous occurrences in the workplace.
* Working with Operations stores staff to procure mechanical parts, supplies and services from a wide range of suppliers to ensure minimum downtime and maximum availability and reliability of plant, equipment and fixed plant systems.
* Procurement of mechanical parts in accordance with Waterways Ireland procurement policy and Mechanical Line Management approval.
* Working in Tullamore Depot, on plant items and at various other yards and sites in the Eastern Region as required.
* Supporting the operation of computerised fleet management and plant maintenance programs, particularly with regard to recording information and acting on instructions regarding the above systems.
* Carrying out any mechanical repairs and maintenance duties assigned or requested by Mechanical Line Management.
* Follow work practices and instructions as directed by Mechanical Line Management.
* Comply with and actively promote Waterways Ireland policies and procedures on all aspects of equality.
* Complete all training as required by Waterways Ireland within specified timeframes.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Candidates must be able to demonstrate that they meet the eligibility and essential criteria in their application and at interview. Desirable criteria may be used as necessary in the selection process.
Eligibility Criteria
* Fetac Advanced Certificate qualification in Construction Plant Fitting or equivalent.
* Possess 3 years post qualification experience working as a fitter.
* Possess current full driving licence
Essential Criteria
* Experience and competency of fault-finding, maintenance and repair of heavy duty construction plant, equipment and fixed electro-mechanical plant.
* Experience of metal arc, MIG or TIG welding.
* Knowledge and awareness of Health, Safety and Welfare practice and legislation, with experience of on-site construction situations.
* Possess the ability to understand and interpret engineering and circuit drawings and manuals.
* Ability to work in a team environment.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience of plant maintenance and repair in a water based environment.
* Mechatronic experience of low voltage electrical systems, instrumentation diagnostics and repairs.
* Have experience of working with minimum supervision
Short-listing Process
1. A short-list of candidates for interviews will be prepared on the basis of the information contained in the application. It is essential that all applicants demonstrate on their application how, and the extent to which, they satisfy each of the Eligibility, Essential & Desirable Criteria.
2. Only those candidates who meet the Eligibility Criteria will proceed to the formal short-listing process.
3. The candidates who meet the Eligibility Criteria will then have the information contained in their application assessed against the Essential & Desirable Criteria.
4. Where a specified period of experience is mentioned, it may be increased as a method of reducing numbers or in the event of a large volume of candidates the Desirable Criteria may also be used.
