Responsibilities

In this role, you will:
* Lead technical strategy and architecture for Buffet, Toast's designponent library and underlying systems
* Champion best-in-class accessibility, performance, and internationalisation across frontend surfaces
* Evolve Buffet to meet the needs of AI-assisted development, enabling safe and scalableponent generation and usage
* Partner closely with Design, Product, and Engineering to align system capabilities with team needs and product strategy
* Build and document scalable patterns, tooling, and abstractions to support experimentation and high-quality delivery
* Influence cross-team efforts around theming, responsive design, content surfaces, and shared UI frameworks
* Be a mentor, multiplier, and technical sounding board across the frontendmunity at Toast
Do you have the right ingredients*?
* 8+ years of experience building and scaling web applications, with deep expertise in modern frontend technologies (React, TypeScript, CSS-in-JS, etc.)
* Demonstrated leadership in building or maintainingponent libraries or design systems
* Passion for frontend fundamentals - accessibility, animation, responsive design, and cross-browser behaviour
* Strong systems thinking - able to anticipate scaling challenges, encourage reusability, and design for change
* Enthusiasm for the future of development - curiosity about AI-assisted coding, tooling, and emerging patterns
* Familiarity with analytics tooling (Amplitude, GA, etc.) and A/B testing platforms
* Experience influencing product and design decisions through code and conversation
* A bias for collaboration, learning, and raising the bar for frontend craft
