Job Summary
We are currently seeking a Trainee / Automation Engineer to join our team in Fermoy, County Cork. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate or a candidate with 3-5 years’ experience to grow their career in a fast-paced, hands-on engineering environment. Reporting to the Senior Automation Engineer, the successful candidate will support automation and electrical systems to maximise equipment performance and ensure safe, efficient plant operations.
Responsibilities
* Provide electrical and automation support across a range of systems and equipment
* Troubleshoot and maintain PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, drives, and motor controls
* Assist with technical documentation and the development of automation system drawings
* Support site-wide preventative maintenance routines
* Contribute to plant upgrades, continuous improvement projects, and performance reporting
* Collaborate with the wider maintenance team on breakdowns, overhauls, and installations
* Ensure spares usage is tracked and replacement parts are sourced in coordination with stores
* Stay up to date on emerging automation technologies and improvements
Qualifications & Skills
* Relevant trade qualification with 3–5 years’ experience or a third-level qualification in automation, electrical, or mechatronic engineering
* Strong diagnostic and repair skills in electrical/automation systems
* Experience with PLC troubleshooting (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley), SCADA, and HMI platforms
* Practical understanding of electrical schematics, networking, and motor control circuits
* Excellent teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills
* Flexible to support on-call duties as required
