The Clinical Course Coordinator Role (Clinical Nurse Manager 2) is a vital role which leads, develops, and oversees the educational, learning, and teaching components of the Neurosciences Post Graduate Diploma Course which is endorsed by the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (RCSI). Working at CNM 2 level, some of your key duties will include, but are not limited to, provision of a visible and accessible senior nursing presence across educational and clinical environments, maintaining good working relationships with a variety of stakeholders, administration and innovation of the course learning structures, offering expertise and role modelling to differing levels of nurse and learner, and ensuring that practice is delivered to the highest standards.ResponsibilitiesResponsibilitiesThe post holder will be responsible for:1. Participate in the recruitment and selection of eligible staff nurses wishing to undertake the Neuroscience post graduate diploma, Nursing post graduate diploma (neuroscience), and Neuroscience postgraduate certificate and specialist practice programmes2. Facilitate and coordinate the Neuroscience post graduate diploma, Nursing post graduate diploma (neuroscience) and Neuroscience postgraduate certificate programmes in conjunction with the Senior Course Coordinator and the Royal College of Surgeons (RCSI)3. Maintain the NMBI (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) accreditation of the Neuroscience post graduate diploma, Nursing post graduate diploma (neuroscience), and Neuroscience postgraduate certificate programmes4. Develop a core neuroscience curriculum for three specialist clinical neuroscience modules which include 'Core Concepts of Neuroscience Nursing', 'Acute Complex Neuroscience Conditions' and 'Consolidating Practice in Neuroscience Nursing.'5. Facilitate nurses to develop professional clinical competencies, promote quality, and advance practice. The role will ensure staff within the areas comply with continuous professional development.6. Plan and deliver educational programmes in conjunction with the Centre of Education for the wider hospital/community7. Play a pivotal role in developing and maintaining a learning environment in all clinical areas of the Neurosciences Directorate, to enable nurses to integrate theory with practice, and support nurses to acquire the skills to deliver quality patient care8. Work closely with key stakeholders to ensure continuity in the provision of formal education programmes, in-service education, continuing professional development initiatives, and ward based initiatives aimed at meeting the learning needs of the registered nurses developing proficient and expert skills9. To enhance nursing research in the Neurosciences Directorate and assist staff in progressing their work to a published levelProgramme Development & Co-ordination• Maintain effective communication between Beaumont Hospital School of Nursing, Nurse Managers, and Academic Partners with regards to the implementation and ongoing development of formal education programmes• Plan programme schedules for students enrolled on the Neuroscience post graduate diploma, Nursing post graduate diploma (neuroscience), and Neuroscience postgraduate certificate programmes• In collaboration with Clinical Nurse Managers, negotiate lectures from each of the speciality areas and plan lectures/ tutorials schedules• Organise clinical placements, study release times, and student assignments in consultation with Clinical Nurse Managers.• Plan assessments and examination schedules (This will include liaising with academic partners with regard to examination dates, papers, questions and assignments)• Participate in the interview and selection of applications for the post graduate programmes• Support the personal and professional development of the student in accordance with the aims and objectives of the programmes and provide supportive supervision when necessary• Contribute to curriculum planning and lead in the development of the specialist clinical modules of the programmes in such a way that will reflect contemporary evidence-based practice• Formulate standards of education to provide continuity and co-ordination of programme content• Undertake the role of an examiner/ assessor in written and clinical examinations as required• Undertake the role of moderator for the assessment and examinations set out in the programmes• Ensure that the necessary graduate diploma programme documentation is prepared and available to potential candidates and students• Maintain a record of projects / assignments undertaken by students and organise a presentation of student course work• Compile progress reports regarding module outcomes and maintain a register of nurses who complete programmes• Carry out general administrative duties in support of the aforementioned courses (e.g. ensure equipment available for lectures, booking classrooms, maintaining records of student attendance, ensure delivery of examination scripts and results to academic partners for assessment by external examiners)• Ensure a culture of organisational learning for all staff (e.g. ensure that projects undertaken as part of a programme are followed through and ensuring they are implemented into practice)• Work closely with other education coordinators in the overall development of education and in-service programmes for staffTeaching & Staff Development • Lecture and teach on various educational programmes and act as a specialist resource• Facilitate the progression of academic writing skills and course assignment development• Assist students in identifying learning needs in the clinical setting• Liaise closely with the clinical practice support nurses to assist student learning in the clinical setting and provide on-going support and feedback• Work with students during their clinical rotations to ensure they reach competence• Develop teaching, learning, and assessment strategies that will best maximise opportunities to integrate theoretical concepts to specific practice situations, in consultation with clinical staff• Assist clinical staff in the development of their teaching and assessing role• Provide support to Lecturers as required• Identify training and personal development needs of individual staff, set objectives, and complete personal development plans for staff• Take all possible steps to promote the development of staff with the aim of facilitating nurses to be autonomous and expert practitioners• Facilitate appropriate study days for nursing and support staff• Identify and utilise teaching, learning, and practice opportunities in the clinical setting and encourage problem based learning strategies based on patient health problemsStandards & Quality of Care • Ensure the maintenance of a suitable environment for patients and staff with particular emphasis on Health and Safety (e.g. infection control practice, Occupational Health Department advice, Fire Marshall Training, risk management incident reports, awareness of equipment maintenance procedures)• Review and update policies and procedures and ensure these are known to and understood by staff and are implementedResearch & Audit • Maintain own practice and knowledge• Act as a facilitator and resource for nursing and multidisciplinary research• Use expert skills to guide and support students in practice and research• Enable students to develop the skills of critical analysis and utilise appropriate research findings in neuroscience nursing practice• Facilitate staff/ students to develop research skills• Act as supervisor and support to students with the research enquiry module and assignments• Organise relevant study days for both internal and external staff in the speciality area• Take part in the policy and procedure development in the unit to ensure best practice guidelines are being implemented• Monitor, access, utilise, and disseminate current relevant research to advise and ensure the provision of informed evidence based practice• Generate and contribute to the development of clinical standards and guidelines and support implementationPractice• The post holder will assume responsibility to keep up to date with best practice and new developments and trends in the speciality• Plan and organise student learning in the clinical setting and evaluate progress with relevant clinical staff• Actively encourage and participate in quality improvement initiatives within the Neurosciences Directorate• Develop programmes specific to the needs of the nursing workforce within the Neurosciences Directorate in conjunction with directorate nurse managerProgramme evaluation• Evaluate postgraduate educational programme content and recommend modification (where required) to the Programme Management Team.• Provide ongoing evaluation and modification of the teaching, learning, and, assessment process utilised in the programme.• Undertake the evaluation of the programme within the context of its progress, lecture content, and student experience, recommending modifications where required.Self-development • Create and maintain an environment conducive to evidence-based teaching, learning, and practice• Act as an effective role model, mentor, and leader of staff• Attends and participates in staff development programmes• Actively seek research findings, which will support clinical practice and participate actively with research opportunities within the directorate• Keep up to date with current research (e.g. relevant medical and nursing journals)• Discuss present performance and future needs with the DNM and/or CNM 3Administrative • Participate in the collection and collation of statistical and clinical data and assist in the preparation of the Annual Departmental Report with the DNM• Participate in the Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc(a) Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:(i) Are registered in the relevant division of the Register of Nurses & Midwivesmaintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) (BordAltranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann) or entitled to be so registered.(ii) Have at least 5 years post registration experience (or an aggregrate of 5 yearsfulltime post registration experience) of which 2 years must be in the specialityor related area.(iii) Have the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly dischargethe functions of the role.(iv) Candidates must demonstrate evidence of continuous professional development.(b) Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability including a high standard ofsuitability and clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge thefunctions of the role.2. Annual registration(i) On appointment, practitioners must maintain live annual registration on the relevantdivision of the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing andMidwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann).(ii) Confirm annual registration with NMBI to the HSE by way of the annual PatientSafety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).3. HealthCandidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable ofundertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate areasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.4.
